Now that I look back and see Sans' flip, I'm more to lean they suspect a bomb somewhere, and were trying to get that person to hint at it as a way of trying to dodge that bullet. They can at least make a play off Sans getting checked.

That said, you know the first two kills make sense as they give no information and what not, but I'm still not convinced that there's a reason to read dummy as anything other than just strong town who wants to win. So why not just kill him? Did Mettaton hint a false role by chance? Did I miss that?

I don't think I ever saw anything from him hinting at a role or that could be seen as softing, but that might be worth a reread of his posts. I usually gloss over softs so this very well could be the case.
