Any direction I should be going in?

I'm new to StepMania. I downloaded the latest version of StepMania 5, picked up the ultralight theme, bumped my speed to c500 for starters, set my arrows to delta and distant, and put my keys to a DFJK spread. I'm all set in that regard. As for songs, however –

–*I downloaded the recent StepMania Stepping Stones pack. I'm going through all of the songs with "Novice" difficulties right now because holy hell are some of the Easy difficulties hard for me at the moment. I'm asking what I should be doing to gradually improve. Should I AAA all the novice songs before starting to move on to the Easy ones, then Medium, etc? Is there a better song pack I should be using for just starting out?

FFR has a bit of direction with all of the song levels where you can just slowly work your way up, but I'm a little lost because StepMania seems so delightfully limitless and open.
