The Drug Strategy of European Union

In the end of year 2004 the European Parlament accepted a list of suggestions, which is known as The Catania Report that is to be used as a new strategy to deal with the drug problem accross Europe.

This report supports alternative drugs policies that are different from the ones currently in effect. The Catania Report insists on the use of procedures that reduce the risks and problems drugs cause, instead of the current prohibition policy.

I myself am for this report and have signed the petition for ( but not limited to ) following reasons:

Citizens should be provided with factual, scientific information about drugs, instead of information based on for example emotions. ( like WHO instead of personal experiences )

Addicts should have proper treatment instead of for example giving them alternative drugs ( such as Subutex ) to keep them off the illegal narcotics. This has not proven useful at all.

Money from drugs should not go to organized crime like mafia or terrorism.
