Self-defense? I don't think so. I'm open to many experiences, and don't throw away anything in life because I choose to experience everything and anything (well, obviously to a certain degree). I think everything has novel value. I didn't notice this at first as it was done subconsciously, but someone brought my attention to the fact that I placed a toy dinosaur on my bible (I'm not a very organized person, and kinda just mash a lot of things together in my room). After I noticed that, I think it's a clear depiction of how the world really is (interpret that as you will). Essentially in my little spiel, it doesn't validate religion, but someone can't really try to say it doesn't validate it because they'll have to really be able to prove/disprove everything of a particular religion to do so. As with my belief that I like religion because I enjoy the experience, people will have a belief of what religions are, consisted of, came from, or used for - but neither of us really know, or can obtain, the cold-hard facts of their "real truths", if there really are.
With my contribution, I think it's just a drawn out variation on who_cares973's dialogue. Well stated.
