Are you sure you're listening to real screamo (i.e. the bands that were mentioned earlier in this thread?)
Screamo and emo are two very confused genres. Screamo is often confused for post-hardcore, such as Underoath, The Used, Alexisonfire, Alesana, Senses Fail, Escape the Fate, Silverstein, and blessthefall. As evidence how "confused" this genre is, I took every one of those artists from the "Top Artists" for the screamo tag on last.fm. However, the Wiki for the screamo tag is very accurate. http://www.last.fm/tag/screamo/wiki As for emo, the "Top Artists" are all just pop-rock (Taking Back Sunday, My Chemical Romance, etc.) but the Wiki page is also accurate. http://www.last.fm/tag/emo/wiki The easy way for me to explain emo and screamo is that they are PUNK ROCK. By punk rock standards, if you have a recording contract with Sony, have albums on shelves at Best Buy, and most of the venues you play at have stages, you're not a punk rock band. That can be said for screamo and emo, since they are sub-genres of punk. I think it's also safe to say that most real emo music has simply evolved into math-rock, and is often just confused for indie. PS sup Starshot hang out with my sister lately? |
