just to throw in my two cents, I would not be in favor of giving all pre-death accounts subscriber/supporter status. I don't feel like it would accomplish much, and it could give new users a constant reason to question and gripe

Why not give all those accounts a colored name and custom title and keep subscribers subscribers

A little thing like the FF(Reverse R) icon would be bad ass.
