The following is a public service annoucement from Moogy and lightdarkness. Enjoy.
Right now you might be asking yourself, "What's so great about Mozilla Firefox?" There are so many pros to this great browser that you will switch halfway through hearing them, or you're just not even human. These links will attempt to make you switch to Firefox. If they fail at this task, you fail at life. http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?si...id=172&tid=218 This article right here should be enough, but some people foolishly blow it off. This article reveals that Microsoft’s SECURITY MANAGER uses firefox. Obviously, he doesn’t feel that IE is SECURE enough for THE SECURITY MANAGER!!! http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=0...&tid=154&tid=1 This article shows that the trend of firefox is on the rise, and people are making the switch, just like you should. http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=0...&tid=154&tid=1 If you haven’t heard some of the benefits of firefox, this article reveals some of the great extension features firefox has to offer. http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=0...&tid=154&tid=1 This article shows that Microsoft hasn’t implemented several things firefox has had for a long time, and a version of IE might not be released with all these features until Longhorn is released. In the same vein, IE is not standards-compliant. This means that it uses Microsoft's own skewed interpretation of HTML and CSS, and is a bitch to make sites for. A site that looks beautiful in FireFox could look like crap in IE. Tabbed browsing is one of the AWESOME things firefox has to offer. Now, I dunno about you, but I usually have around 35 tabs per window when I browse, with around 5 different windows. This would equate to around 175 IE windows. Not only would that lag your computer to death, it would be impossible to find anything. It is so nice having all your browsers in one window, with a simple control+tab away from the next window. Tabs also use much less system resources than windows (in fact, they use nearly none), which is a BIG plus. When you hit ctrl-f, instead of popping up the inefficient Windows default find box, it instead creates a much easier-to-use and generally more efficient find bar at the bottom of the screen. Instead of having to hit a button to search the document, it finds words as you type, and can be set to go up or down very easily. One of the totally awesome features of firefox is live bookmarks. I could give you an explanation myself, but the Mozilla team explains it best. http://www.mozilla.org/products/fire...bookmarks.html Personally, my (and many others') biggest pet peeve about IE is that IT DOESN’T SUPPORT PNG TRANSPARENCY!!!! My avatar on many forums, and on my site don’t display correctly on IE, because IE doesn’t support PNG transparency. I hate the fact that on my site I had to make my av a gif, because my computer doesn't convert png to gif without some color alteration, it's something messed up with my computer; however, I will NOT use gif anywhere else. Screw you, IE. There are so many articles I could link you to, which would show how often vulnerabilities are found in IE. Granted that some are found in firefox, but when they do happen (not very often), patches are released THAT DAY, not 2 weeks later, like some other browsers *cough*IE*cough*. That's another thing I like about FireFox; the reliability of the team. They're always very quick to fix things, and are constantly working on new builds. Truly a dedicated team worthy of our compliments. Another great feature is the fact that FireFox's UI, Chrome, is completely customizable. It comes with a great theme, which you can tweak to your liking by simply going to view > customize. Or, if you want, you could even make your own theme! There are also a multitude of great themes available for download at www.mozdev.org and other places. Making themes is very easy, as well. Simply replace some graphics for a quick theme, or rewrite Chrome's (easy to understand) code for a more indepth theme. The possibilities for themes are endless. I wish I could go on and explain more of the awesome things firefox has to offer, but if you haven’t been convinced yet, you should quit the internet. Don’t be the last one to make the switch to firefox, set an example for your peers, friends, and family, and GET FIREFOX NOW!!! ![]() ![]() ![]()
