Predetermined and programed... JUST FOR YOU!

This is (to my family and friends, at least) a VERY high level of thinking (no, I don't think it's that hard). Do you think it's possible for people to be put in a world where nothing exists except for the people they meet (or see on T.V.) and the times before that were predetermined and programmed into the people? I mean, what if I'm the only human that can think and that nothing happened before I was born (or as far as I can remember) and everything was made up, like the year, the monuments, animals, plants, inventions, and atmosphere!? How do we know I'm not just being watched by a higher lifeform and have my environment set up to be to my like or dislike until I die, just to watch the senarios unfold?!
