Now that the backgrounds start right at the top of the profile where the header starts if there is one, there's a trick you can do to create a fake banner.
If one were to just use a transparent header, like say a completely blank transparent gif or png image the size of 942 by 200, the header would space everything down, but the background behind the header would seem like the header. Edit: Actually, I realize that the width could just be 1px and it would still have the same effect. If the profile was designed to have one big picture to be used for the header and background, all you need to do is just save it altogether as the background, and then use a transparent header. Other possibilities opened up with this also. Before with my profile, I had to make my header seem like the text was transparent, but now my header actually has the transparent parts transparent, and I don't have to worry about having the background matching up right.
