Chances are you'd die instantly or bleed to death.
In the army you're taught (at least for semi-auto weapons) to take 2 body shots or 1 headshot to be sure the enemy dies, although a chest shot with an assault rifle will most likely be a one-shot kill.
The whole point of CoD4 is to add a huge amount of realism. The only not-realistic thing (besides non-destructible scenery) is the auto-heal feature, and the reason I like that is that temporarily, your aim is worse, your vision decreased and your speed is decreased.
There has to be a balance between realism and developer liberty to make a truly great game. I mean, if there was an RPG where the main character could sprint for about 30 seconds and then have to walk for 10 minutes because he was winded, it wouldn't be fun.

But like I said, because of CoD4's "getting shot" realism, there's extra emphasis on positioning and proper aim, and like I said, that isn't necessarily a bad thing.
