Default Significance of Canadian Involvement in the Somme?

I'm writing an essay for history class, and it's about the significance of Canadian involvement in the Somme. So far, I've only come up with two areas (originally arrived as support troops and the fact that they helped to capture key objectives). I was wondering if anybody would be willing to help me out by stating another general area (which I can research and analyze) in which Canadian troops were significant in the Somme. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
