let me just say something first: I am not particularly religious.
anyway my mom is the typical person who thinks that they are pacifists, practice every religion (though this contradicts each specific religion in itself...) and believes in the afterlife and stuff like that. we were talking about the virgin mary and the miracle that produced Jesus Christ. She told me how her father attended some Jesuit school and he and her both believe that mary did in fact have intercourse with a man to become pregnant, and that the miracle is that her hymen was still intact. she said that the theory where god planted his seed in mary was bull. I told her that by definition, her theory would render Mary a nonvirgin, because being virgin means not partaking in any intercourse whatsoever. Her circular logic was that doctor's tell whether a woman is a virgin or not by the state of her hymen, because during intercourse the hymen usually breaks, meaning you aren't a virgin anymore. she drew the conclusion that if you have an intact hymen you're a virgin, and if you have a broken one you're a nonvirgin. someone please tell me she's an idiot. |
