Default So...I crashed my dad's truck yesterday.

My family and I went to Provo (small Utah town) to visit my aunt yesterday in my dad's truck. Everything was normal and fine the whole day. I thought it was going to be great considering that some family came from Mexico that I don't get too see that much.

So the day passed. We got there around noon to be able to spend the whole day over there. My aunt wanted to go buy some chow because everyone was hungry. Her car was in the driveway but it was blocked by my dad's truck.

My dad and everyone else was inside the house other than some cousins and I who were outside. My aunt didn't want to bother my dad so she asked me if I could move the truck. I said "yeah, sure why not? I've done this plenty of times before." And it was true. I have to do it a lot. My parents trust me.

She gave me the keys and I got in. I pulled out of the driveway fine. Across the street there was a space where I could put the truck. The neighbors didn't mind. So I put it in drive and advance toward the spot. I get in the spot fine. I go to press the brake so I can change it into park then WHAM! I accidently hit the accelerator. There was another car infront of me. I hit it strong and I sent it back a couple of yards. I immediately got out and checked the damage.

The truck suffered damage to the bumper, so that needs to be replaced. I went over to check the car and my insides went cold. The whole front got smashed in. The..sorry don't know what it's called...went up against the tires so you can't drive the car. Immediately my aunt called my dad. It was a huge scene. There was so much family there so it immediately got into a crowd. Then the neighbors got out. My dad took the heat for it. He said that he did it. If they would've said it was me I'm pretty sure that I would've gotten into major trouble (considering that I'm underage;Don't have a liscence). Insurance had us covered a little. The estimate came out to over 10,000 dollars but the insurance does that. I really don't understand the system that well, but I know that my dad is going to have to end up paying around fifteen-hundred dollars.

Both my parents really got angry at me and ended up giving me a huge lecture which ended with strong punishments from both sides. My dad sent out the truck to get fixed today. I haven't spoken to him since. Sad thing is that the truck was going to be my present 2 years from now, but I don't think my dad wants to give it to me now.

Anyways to finish up ('cause I didn't think it would be this long), I crashed. What do you do? Go tell FFR.

I once did that sort of thing with my mom's car. The good news is that it was in the garage, and I caught myself before I hit anything. The ol' accelerator swaperoo will get ya, though. Watch out!

Sucks to hear that you might not get the truck. I had to buy all of my cars to date, and I'll tell you that it's a real pain in the ass.

I totalled my car about a month ago.

It was pretty cool. But I don't recommend you try it.

Luckily it's two years away. You have time for your dad to get over it... a little.

And yeah, I can imagine cars are real annoyances to buy. Just hope that your dad will let you have the car in the end. Not much else to do.

I was thinking if there was anything I could do to make it up to him a little. Something that isn't totally cheesy though. I still have some dignity.

That's why everyone should drive manual and why automatic transmission is a joke.

The mental handicapped and people who drive automatic fall under the same catergory in my book.

Lol, Automatic is all I've ever driven before (other than in the arcade and video games, but I'm pretty sure there is a hell of a difference). Guess I still have time to learn how to drive better. Stupid mistake like that ends up being really costly.

Consider this: I have never known anyone who had a accident whilst driving manual (including mysel). However I know plenty of people who have had accidents whilst driving automatic. From this evidence I have concluded that, while not entirely impossible, the chances of having an accident in a car with manual transmisison is very low.

You can't argue facts.

At this point I just care about HAVING a car. I don't mind how auto or manual. If it's auto, fine. If it's manual I have nothing against learning.

P.S
It does look cooler to drive manual though...

On the bright side, you weren't responsible for your dad's truck ending up in a creek.

It's been three years, I wasn't even driving, and I'm STILL not insured to drive my mom's truck.

Also: my worst fear driving my car (an automatic) is that I will pull up too far at a red light, have to reverse a little, and forget to put the car back in drive before I hit the gas.

Dude, you're ****ed. You're lucky as hell your dad had the smarts to take the blame for it, or else he could end up in jail.

Yeah, while he was punishing me he mentioned that.

Ive dinked a few cars. Nothing to shout out about though. Its always annoying tradeing insurance details and loseing no claims bounces for the sake of a couple of quids worth of damage. Sh*t happens.

Yes you can. Every single one of my brother's 3 accidents (and he is a damn good driver, especially when compared to ME) has been in a manual transmission car. The one time I drove his car (stupid me trying to move it out of the way so someone else could get in the driveway, when I FAILED MISERABLY at manual-transmission driving school) I hit 3 trash cans all at once and got some of them stuck underneath the car.

Also, your "facts" are not that great. A far larger percentage of people drive automatic cars than do manual transmission cars, which accounts entirely for the larger percentage of accidents with automatic transmissions right there.
