You heard right! I'm here to run my first ever literary contest! What you'll need to know - Your work will be judged. There are 4 judges. Me, Bynary Fission, blackbutterfly451, and phynx. You will be judged on the following requirement: Grammar/spelling, content, length, and plot. Prizes Yeah, I'm putting them near the top. The prizes are 7,500 credits for the One Day Division and 12,500 credits for the One Week Division courtesy of me and Bynary. Divisions Yeah, you're probably thinking "divisions? wtf?" Well, they're not ordinary divisions. You can sign up to both or just one. One week division - You will have one week to write an 8,000 word story. One day division - You will have one day to write a 1,800 word story. Submission Thread only. How will the other judges read it if you PM it to me, lol. Post your story here. Prizes Sign-ups Now until whenever we're done. *Note* There are no required prompts, but we will recommend some. Anyway, hope to get a good turn out. Last edited by rzr; 11-2-2008 at 10:19 PM.. |

I don't believe this is the first literary contest... I think I remember seeing one with poems, short stories, and such?
Anyway, I might try. |

First - Mal, I want you to partake in this once you read the OP and glaze over this post.
Second - If I start getting extra credits I will dump them here, right now I have 76K D:

Kk. I think Mal will be game, but I can at least get it stickied. Hell, if round 1 is successful maybe we can make it an ongoing thing. And Dag, it didn't say it at the bottom...

Everything seems good, but are any of the elements we'll be judging on be weighted more than another? For example, is spelling and grammar less important than plot? (personally I would hope so)
P.S I still think 2000 words should be the limit for a one-day essay. P.P.S I'll throw 10000 credits your way for the contest, rzr. If this gets large enough, I may pitch in even further. ![]() ~Bynary Fission

I think it matters to the judge. I mean, I could care less about how it's structured as long as it hooks me. So, a good plot will gain a better score from me. And grammar. <3 for the credits. Shall we add second place or bump up first's prize? How about 1,800? Butterfly says if we demand too much they'll insert a bunch of fluff.

1. I think leaving it up to the judge is the best idea, actually. I assume it's rated on a scale of 1-10? Or perhaps, it could be done for each category...
2. How many credits to we have? EDIT: 1800 is fine - Butterfly's thought is definitely legitimate, but I highly doubt people would insert useless fluff in a literary contest (somebody who enters this would likely take it seriously). ~Bynary Fission EDIT: You might want to add that judges can't participate, in case that question is brought up. Kinda sucks, but oh well, being a judge is sweet enough for me. ![]()

We're at 20k combined, 10 from you and me. 1,800 it is. Yeah, 1-10. We each do 1-10 and combine them, closest to 40 wins. If it's a tie, we vote.

Sounds good. I'm kind of surprised Butterfly isn't posting - she seems to be adding a lot of input through you.
And as of now, I'd say 7.5k for the one-day contest and 12.5k for the week-long contest is fair (first place), since we're a bit short on funds. If Phynx indeed donates his 76k, then we could extend prizes all the way down for 3rd place. ~Bynary Fission

I think I'll join the One Week division. This is just the motivation I've needed to get back into writing.

She just went to sleep.
![]() EDIT: I can't see what NFD wrote because he's on my ignore list. If he signed up let me know. If he said something stupid, well, that'd just prove why I'm ignoring him. Last edited by rzr; 11-2-2008 at 01:22 AM.. |

Actually, not at all. This is what he wrote:

For the contest, NFD decided to write a third person story narrative about something that happened to him recently. To get into character NFD will be typing in third person also.

Oh, you're writing about an event that happened to you in the third person? Sounds very interesting. Will this be told through the eyes of a friend or family member, or do you wish not to diverge details until the contest begins?

Well, we had to do basically this a few weeks ago for my Comp class. Basically, we had to take an event from our life, and talk about it in third person. For example:
"Tyler waved at his friends as they got off the bus." |
