Skill tokens are meant to be "challenge" content, so they are not awarded for having already completed the requirement prior to the release of the token. Achievement tokens, on the other hand, are awarded for reaching certain milestones and are awarded retroactively.

This is the nature of these tokens, and it's why we don't just give people skill tokens if they already completed the requirement.

They may be challenge content, but again the challenge has already been done. So you have to re do the hard challenge again to get the token? I am sure they will bring out one where you have to AAA Reality to get one (which I will probably never do again). If it wasn't "you have to AAA this song to get it", it probably wouldn't matter, But the fact that you have to re do something because of a new token sucks. I am sure most other game engines would already register that it has been done with no excuses lol. Ill check back in a months time I might be able to AAA it again (probably not i'm washed up)

Yes. That's how it has always been for new skill tokens. I had to re-AAA quite a few things myself, including for Epidermis v2.

AAA Reality was already a skill token, but the requirement was changed to include any difficulty 85-94 song.

Also, I imagine some tokens would be difficult and/or annoying to retroactively from a coding perspective since the current system, to my understanding, works by checking if you've satisfied the token requirements once you reach the results screen.

Unless it's changed dramatically since I last had access to the interface, it is literally a screen with all the tokens, the earned ones selected, and you can just select/unselect by clicking on them. It's literally a 2 second process.

Just, policy on skill tokens is to not give them retroactively.

Is there anywhere that says that policy? I can understand it, but if it's not explicitly stated somewhere I can also see how that can be disheartening to players that have already met all the requirements for a token unlock (especially ones that are a bitch to unlock).
