![]() Weird question, I'll admit. Maybe you could help me though.
How much do you spend on food on average? Per day, per week, per month, whatever. I'm talking all meals and snacks and whatever else. And how much do you think is a reasonable amount to spend on food, particularly someone who must be frugal and is on a budget?

![]() i spend roughly $275 a month on food (just below $9/day) since i either grab something small for lunch & dinner (sandwich+water) or have one meal (something ~$8,9 for dinner)

![]() having classes from 9am~4pm no breaks in between forced me to eat less, just once a day or twice during weekends, frugal unintentionally
actually i do spend like $1 or 2 a day on drinks so that'd make it $300 a month

![]() My weekly grocery bill averages about 40-50 dollars a week. Call it 200/month.
On top of that, I'll typically spend about 20-30 dollars a week on snacks, deciding I don't want to cook and going out for dinner, including a beer here and there with a meal etc. But weeks where I decide to eat out a lot generally mean cheaper groceries the next week, as I still have uncooked food from the week before. Generously lets say I spend about 40/week on proper food and another 25 on food and drink I should probably do without. Last edited by devonin; 10-3-2013 at 12:35 AM.. |

ramen only costs like 20 cents a pack around here
That would be about 15 packs of ramen per day. ps dev, your response is pretty much what I thought would be reasonable/expected.

![]() hmmm
maybe about 50 a week or so. i cook for myself so the cost is drastically reduced, but a grocery bill is typically around $40, and that'll last me the entire week, assuming i cook everything. but then i'll want a snack or something hot to eat before class, so maybe a starbucks or a costco chicken bake once a week bumps it to 50

how in the hell could you spend 400 plus in a week on only food
Do you realize that that'd be like 60 bucks a day? I couldn't eat that much of food if I tried. The only way I could see it as being possible is eating at a high-end restaurant for multiple meals every day of the week. Do you do that? My mind is just boggling at this.

![]() 20 euros a week for plenty of healthy foods. All I drink is tap water and tea.
You needn't spend more than that. Make sure to plan your meals well, and have some food with you at all times. You don't need to pre-make anything, if you think that's a drag. I myself always have half a bread with me, along with things like cheese, peanut butter or tuna. I also tend to take a portable water heater with me so I can make tea while working somewhere. This way I don't lose money on buying overpriced coffee at a coffee machine. You can also try to plan meals around what happens to be on sale. If you can then also make sure to not waste money on useless snacks, then you will have a lot of money left over for relatively more important things. |
