Arch0wl's dexterity gym
figured I'd make a thread for this to keep me motivated.
some of my goals are, in order of difficulty: * passing St. Scarhand one handed (B 8 9 0 setup, see this vid) * getting a good score on Mei another kb7 (80% or above) * passing Air solo * getting a score like A or AA on Air solo * AA'ing Quasar 1.5x rate one handed * passing Quasar 1.5x double handed * AA'ing Quasar 1.5x rate double handed (that is, pasting the regular quasar to another set of 4 arrows on 8 keys so you're playing regular quasar one-handed on the right hand and one-handed on the left hand; it's a huge dump of chordstream and 2x the NPS) (I think if I achieve the last one, there really isn't anything left to do in music games. I'm done.) all of these require a ton of dexterity and regular play so I thought I'd use this thread for progress Last edited by Arch0wl; 07-1-2013 at 11:13 PM.. |

Re: Arch0wl's dexterity gym
this is 0.7x, B890 setup.
obviously a far cry from 1.0x, but it's progress. |

Re: Arch0wl's dexterity gym
I can't even beat air solo yet so 13 cbs is a long way away
right now my 16th speed on my right hand is ~190-210bpm messy and ~150-160bpm clean. I need to get that to about 200 clean (since left hand will always lag by ~20bpm) to even attempt an A or AA on air and that's gonna take a lot of practice. |

Re: Arch0wl's dexterity gym
I have not heard of "playing pettanko", do you have a description of this on hand?

Re: Arch0wl's dexterity gym
Semi-pettanko = spread with middle/ring fingers on each hand
Pettanko = spread with ring/pinky fingers on each hand

Re: Arch0wl's dexterity gym
I could probably pass quasar double handed with a solid months practice

Re: Arch0wl's dexterity gym
assuming you meant quasar 1.5x double handed, that would be incredible.
quasar double handed wouldn't be *that* hard. quasar 1.5 double handed though... that's approaching freedom dive tier. |

Re: Arch0wl's dexterity gym
I very well may be underestimating how difficult it may be to simultaneously use my hands even if the arrows are the same for both. In my prime I could use my less dexterous hand (left) fairly well. My stamina is practically non-existent at this point in stepmania terms I give out so easily now it's pretty sad and hard to believe I ever had as much stamina as I did. It might take me longer and I would have to be very dedicated. I'm pretty sure I aaa'd quasar one handed 1.5x back in the day.

Re: Arch0wl's dexterity gym
Double handed from what I tried is..harder than it sounds rofl
It'd be useful if you are using e.g. B890 to rip off the VGHN (adjacent) keys so you don't slip your tongue while playing |

Re: Arch0wl's dexterity gym
Do you still index at all, or have you moved onto strictly one handed/double handed play? St Scarhand index is a bit of bugger but rewarding to pass. MSWGO is a classic rage filler as well. I'm trying to work on getting my index pass endurance back, but unfortunately the kb I now have to use is nowhere near as good as my old one for that

I would play index-ish stuff more if my hypothetical clamshell pop'n setup were realized though. But that would cost like $500 to make, rofl. Anyway, my ultimate goal for music games is to be able to play 10-key at an extremely competent level, and you can only do that by training up to it. I need to build a controller for this first, though. Last edited by Arch0wl; 07-2-2013 at 10:43 AM.. |
