President Obama Mum on Texas Succession Petition; Other state petitions gaining steam
A petition to "Peacefully grant the State of Texas to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government" recently got the minimum signatures needed (25,000) by December 9th. The 25,000 signatures were gathered in just THREE DAYS.
Now that the petition has gathered the needed signatures, it has now "reached the threshold for comment from the White House." The next closest state with a similar petition is Louisiana - which still needs 5,011 signatures by December 7th. The rest that I could find still need 15,000-20,000 signatures. Re: President Mum on Texas Succession Petition
What rights of theirs are being trounced on?
Their right to be ignorant to the world and ban gay marriage which isn't an actual right in the first place? I'm not too sure. |

Re: President Mum on Texas Succession Petition
I think he means that Marriage isn't a right in the first place.
I'm curious to see what happens here, I doubt Texas will actually Succeed in Seceding but it should be interesting to watch.

Re: President Mum on Texas Succession Petition
Oh my god my wording is fucking awful
what I meant is that they don't have the right to ban it, not that gay marriage isn't a right I'm gonna impale my face into a wall now |

Now are these all states that voted for Texas, or states that want their own country? lol

I'd like to see a comparison between this map and the states that went to Romney. See how much overlap there is.

i mean, sure, long island pays billions more in taxes than it receives from the state, but LI has next to nothing to offer in terms of interstate trade, and that would pretty much cancel out the effects of getting those billions back

And it's not just states won by Romney. It's states won by Obama, too. Last edited by DotKritic; 11-13-2012 at 04:22 PM.. |

It's a bunch of crazy motherfuckers with the foresight of a bath towel and I don't know why anyone would take them seriously. "Hey let's be Lesotho in the middle of the biggest military power in the world, that'll be cool right?"

Re: President Obama Mum on Texas Succession Petition; Other state petitions gaining s
hahahahaha! Oh goodness, that gave me such a good laugh.
So basically they'd like to preserve their quality of life and rights. They see the current state of affairs in the US as a threat to that quality of life and their rights. Consequently they are willing to go the extent of withdrawing from the US. Ok Texas, you go ahead and do that. Have your cake and eat it too. Because that always works. And they're right, we no longer operate under the values of the founding fathers. Because many of them were plantation owners who had slaves, and everyone being equal did not include those slaves. If you're going to bring up a founding fathers argument, you have to be more specific and explain just why such things are applicable in modern times. Most of the people signing those petitions probably haven't the slightest clue of the repercussions that seceding would have. I know I don't. Last edited by Ninty64; 11-13-2012 at 09:16 PM.. |
