Honda Civic. (Come here if you know anything about car mods)
I have a 1997 Honda Civic Si automatic and I wanna know if a 1997 Honda Del Sol Si has the exact same engine because when I look for parts for a 97 Civic Si I can never find anything, there's only DX, EX, CX and mines an Si, but there are parts for Del Sol Si's so I was wondering if lets say I bought a cold air intake, ram intake, manifold and headers for a 97 Del Sol Si, would they fit my 97 Civic Si?

VTEC JUST KICKED IN YO
on topic: hondas make me cry. And: 1996 - 1997 Honda Del Sol 1.6 Si SOHC (Engine: D16Y8) "I have a high millage 1997 Honda Civic Si with a 1.6L V-tec that has an engine not worth fixing and needs a swap. The block in it is a D16Y8." (I know nothing of Hondas, so hope this helps)

Re: Honda Civic. (Come here if you know anything about car mods)
Does anyone know if a 1999 Civic SI has the same engine as a 97? I went on auto123 and compared them and basically they're both the same, but I need to be sure.

So basically figured out my VIN number has one of the things I need for parts. EJ8 and it's a d16y8 so any 1997 Honda EX part will fit.
And yes, lets.

Re: Honda Civic. (Come here if you know anything about car mods)
Any engine that has this D16Y8 engine will be able to have the direct block bolt ons swapped between cars, such as headers, manifolds etc, but additional pieces will vary from model to model in terms of connection/fit etc. Such as the cold air intake, on a 97 you'd have to hook it straight into the mass airflow sensor, which probably is a different sensor type in the Del Sol. Basically unless it's a direct sister car (like the 3000gt/Stealth) then you will most likely have trouble swapping those non-direct parts.
Best way I've found to see what parts will fit.......seriously eBay, in the title it will usually list all the cars the specific part will fit. |

Shouldn't waste money on a Civic, even if it's an Si. <_<

Re: Honda Civic. (Come here if you know anything about car mods)
Each generation of Civic AFAIK are parallel compatible as far as mods/parts go. This is what makes them so great as far as customization goes, and they're usually cheap too. Also, Acura and Honda fall under the same platform, so you can look into Acura parts as well, not just specifically Honda. Seriously though, see if you can find someone in person to consult with, it's much easier that way to see what you can do, and can't do.

Although you should consult with us first. I think we'll tell you that Honda is not the way to go.
General rule of thumb: Just because it can be done, doesn't mean it should be done.

I don't know what you're talking about. Civic's are amazing especially for their cost range. Very popular in the underground racing scene compared to Subies, and even all the way to Evo's. I don't know or care what the others here think, but I encourage it.

As I've stated elsewhere, instead of buying a $2000 civic and putting $33,000 into it for what, 250hp, you can get a $35,000 evo with ~300hp.

Re: Honda Civic. (Come here if you know anything about car mods)
You also spend nearly twice as much though in gas to begin with, and that can add up to quite a bit in the long run. Evo's aren't as nearly economic in gas IIRC... And they cost more to mod, too. Both cars have their pros and cons. It's easier though for someone like me to drop cheap money into a car up front and pay for more as I go. I don't like spending uber amounts of cash on a car up-front to begin with, and then only have to spend more as well.

If you're going for an actual competition car, then you've got to be willing to shell out cash for it. If you're going for a daily driver, then it shouldn't matter how much power the car has.

This topic isn't really about performance or competition though, so your points against my simple examples are sort of irrelevant and unnecessary. Unless you want to create a new thread about it here on FFR, at which point I'd say go find another hobby.

Re: Honda Civic. (Come here if you know anything about car mods)
Are you sure you have an Si? As I recall, they were not made as automatics. I'm not very familiar with Canadian market differences. Use this picture for reference and let us know your engine code.
I'm assuming, however, that you have a d16y8. Here are parts you should be able to use with that. Header http://shop.ebay.com/items/_W0QQ_dmp...ders&_osacat=0 Intake http://motors.shop.ebay.com/items/_W...ke&_osacat=__0 Get a cheap one and toss the filter it comes with and get a K&N one. Exhaust http://motors.shop.ebay.com/items/?_...st&_osacat=__0 A good idea would be to go to your local tuner shop and talk to the guys there and ask for recommendations. If you have any car savvy friends, go with them to make sure you don't get taken for a ride. I'm a Honda guy myself, but I'm not a fan of Civics or Integras. I like Preludes and Accords. For info on your car and others, go to google and search for "(manufacturer) (model) wiki". You'll get a wikipedia article with information about all generations of the car. You can also look up the engines which will give you ideas of compatibility. D series parts and B series parts are mostly non-compatible. The car scene in Ontario is big so try and find a car club and hit up your local forum to meet car enthusiasts and go to meets. Yeah you're not so knowledgeable right now, but if you're cool the people should have no problem giving you advice or even lending a hand. There aren't a lot of gearheads on this site, so take what you hear from others on here with a grain of salt. I'm no expert, but I've built a few Hondas, which is more than I can say for 99.9% of users on this board
