Song of the Week V2
Atop The World is rated way too low. I'm all for low rated files having tastes of higher-difficulty stuff, but for a 24, this goes WAY over the top. Gratuitous grace notes combined with multiple 64th rolls in the second half of the file...I haven't seen anything like that since Gruntilda's Lair, and that got bumped to, what, a 29? I thought Torinouta was supposed to be the entry point for jumptrilling bursts, holy crap.

Re: Song of the Week V2
I agree. It was a cool file but those 64th rolls are far harder than anything else and are quite awkward to hit. I was surprised to see it rated 24.

Re: Song of the Week V2
It might be properly rated 24 if you play spread (honestly I think it deserves to be higher even for spread), but remember a lot of people at this level might play index or 3-finger 1-handed, in which case rolls like that would be EXTREMELY hard.
Grace notes and rolls like that are pretty unique at that level, simply the difficulty of reading might be grounds to bump it up more. The fact that the yellow note near the beginning is not properly PR'd bothers me unreasonably more than it should >_<

Re: Song of the Week V2
Putting aside the 64ths/grace notes, the end is absurdly awkward to play with the rhythms that're in the song (not saying anything bad about the file, the file's fine, just mean yeah it's pretty hard to play)

I consider 26-27 to be appropriate for Atop.

Re: Song of the Week V2
If you guys want this bumped up due to having incredibly technical patterns at such a low level, then Bodies in the House Next Door should probably get bumped up as well.
I'd like to rate things in terms of how difficult the file is to AAA. If I did that for this file, probably would've put it around a 30. In terms of overall structured difficulty throughout the file (which is how songs should be rated I suppose), I thought this was no more than a 25 (but I guess I was wrong lol). Same logic as to why I didn't push Soulcrusher past the FMO barrier over one uncharacteristically spiky section, although it probably belongs there using a 'difficulty to AAA' rating. By that logic, grind2 is a 103.

Re: Song of the Week V2
Oh yeah, Dead Throne didn't get much love in the first thread.
Chart was pretty fun. However those mini jacks can be brutal because of the constant 16th rhythm that's going on when those sections happen. It's the kind of fun brutal challenge though! Favorite is still Rising Blue Lightning. Flows so nice. |

Re: Song of the Week V2
haha that yellow arrow is a pure oversight on my part, my bad - it was originally a jump but i forgot to pr it properly after i removed one of the arrows
anyway the grace notes are not 'gratuitous'. every grace note makes sense if you listen properly. and yeah the colour stream ending is a complete troll. if nothing else, it's something quite unique amongst files of that difficulty, i hope. difficulty wise it's supposed to be about par with the 64th rolls, although granted: most d1/d2 folks have heard of neither spread nor jumptrilling, so they're going to find the file quite a bit more challenging than the rating would suggest. 27 seems about right

Oh god, Bodies was so nerve-wracking for me to hit. Totally with you OWA. (Could this be moved to the difficulty discussion thread?)

I also know this is slightly out of date, but is there a way to fix the stutter on Bowser the Shredder from I think two weeks ago? It's probably an issue of it not having the proper length of silence or something.

Re: Song of the Week V2
Speaking of this, I think Bodies in the House Next Door should maybe be bumped up xD Where as there's not a lot of notes to hit and its fairly short, the way the arrows come at you in bursts makes it a little challenging to read. It took me a few tries to AAA which most files around that difficulty can be AAA'd with ease (for me) I'd say maybe 1-3 places up. But that's my opinion :3 Haven't tried Atop the World, might play it now out of curiousity

Re: Song of the Week V2
I actually like 'My Fxxkin Desire For You'. I think it's well stepped and pretty accurate. Lol at that Reality stream towards the end although again it goes to the music. I also think both St Scarhand Heavy (not exactly this week but still a new file) and Rising Blue Lightning are awesome files aswell! I don't often compliment rock songs or files but I thought all 3 were spot on IMO!

Re: Song of the Week V2
Am I the only one who feels My Fxxkin Desire For You is rated too highly?
Without going into too much detail comparing patterns, I felt it was easier to PA than most songs in the 80+ area. One pattern for a few seconds out of an otherwise mild (for its rating) and relatively short file isn't much of a hurdle once you get over the initial awkwardness. I realize not every file is created equal, and some people find certain patterns easier/harder to learn. But its bugging me that the SDG was relatively easy to get considering I don't have many sub 20g scores in the 80+ range. It just seems to me that there are a number of 79ish songs that are very similar in difficulty, and in many cases have harder bursts to PA. |

Re: Song of the Week V2
I could possibly see it as a high 83, but I still think 84 is more accurate. Although people have given differing opinions on the ending patterns, I'm in the "it's extremely awkward and difficult to hit" camp. I actually find the first js harder than the second, even including the ending trill transition due to js patterns. Getting just a few goods was quite manageable but narrowing it down to the AAA was quite a task. I see it very similar to AKS in difficulty, while noticeably harder than Ultrasounds!

it could have done so much more during the calmer parts. ????? basically any dense jumpstream patterns would go to the music, but it really isn't fun to play. do you mean st. scarhand light? i don't think the difficulty of MFDFY should be changed either. there are a few good traps that make the AAA harder than you would think, like nathan said.
