Data Drain Oni
I am mainly making this thread to ask how people do on this file nowadays (looking at you, Staiain, etc).

Re: Data Drain Oni
Well I'm terrible at this file, I can read it but the file requires enormous amunt of controlled mash skill and the reason why I got fast in the first place was cause I never mashed/learned controlled mash so I have to disappoint you. My best is only like 88.x % cause I get mainly misses since I try to hit the patterns as-is. pretty sure I can break 90 % on it with some effort but in the end it IS just controlled mash after 800 combo so it's just ragebait not to cbrush.

Re: Data Drain Oni
I've only passed it twice but my speed's improved so I think I can improve a little more on that song as well.
It's a very annoying file if you CB rush it, but with the luck of "controlled mash", there might be a AA on it one day....

Re: Data Drain Oni
I've never passed it, and it annoys me because it's not a file that you can score well on. It gets to a point where I just wrist jack for the last 10 seconds and everything becomes a blur. I've only gotten past 800 combo (full combo from the beginning) and somewhere after I fail miserably.
Somewhere around 500-600 combo, I ignore the timing and just hit straight streams (as if they were 24th notes), and then I start to locate where all the 8th note mini jacks are to help me, but eventually it just becomes too fast for me to read.

Re: Data Drain Oni
And i can fill in with that sadly this will probably never be AA'd.
It's most likely possible to break 90% (not sure if dossar did this already) but stian can do it with pure speed. Wether its controlled mashing or not doesnt matter because you cant "controll mash" those speeds and patterns put together. Im sure dossar has a few points to add but this p much sums it up

Re: Data Drain Oni
If it's any indication, leonid is/was the most skilled when it comes to extremely fast bursts (see Passage D, Lawn Wake III, Red Vector Acid Minute, Counting Snow scores)
If he could only manage ~89% and with a combo like that, it makes AAing extremely unlikely. Of course you can't rule anything out though (if someone told me counting snow edit was FCable the day it came out I would've laughed) That being said I'm pretty sure by the very end you have to start semi-vibrating or full-on vibrating for short durations to combo anything reliably so if someone had the vibr8 skills with the control of leonid then I'd say that's the only way AA can be done. It definitely isn't a file that's been whored to death yet either. I wanna see blur speedy mix AA someday too but that would take a near-FC rofl Last edited by Dynam0; 03-6-2013 at 03:03 PM.. |

Re: Data Drain Oni
The ending is essentially a luckfest if you're doing controlled mashing and really the only way to hit it is if you can luck out hitting jumps on gallops that are close enough that you don't CBrush. That kind of happened this run, but my greats skyrocketed from trying to hit 8th intervals as jumps (and luckily not CBrushing)
Also I should add that MinaciousGrace has a J7 score but there can't really be much to say about it from a J4 perspective because all the CBs in the score would be misses on J4, ruling out the massive good or boo rushing. |

Re: Data Drain Oni
I think it's definitely AA'able, to be honest. I'd go for it myself if I were still active (and probably never achieve it, tbh) -- I think it's one of those things where you have to memorize (or at least know what's comig when) the ending so you can determine where to time your mash-hits to maximize score

Re: Data Drain Oni
Like my score indicates, mash hits although they might lower CBs a good amount will make your greats skyrocket and that crushes DP% hard. I've had cases where my CB count would be enough for an AA on other files but my greats dropped the % just a little too much.

Re: Data Drain Oni
When I try the file I usually end up with 20's PA and 15 - 25 misses and some goods/boos, but if I somehow found a way to mash after ~850 combo it it would definitely be like Dossar said, greats would probably ruin the score even with ridic cbcount anyway so AA is highly unlikely for anyone at the moment.

Re: Data Drain Oni
What bothers me most is the patterns at that BPM. I will take a look at this in the editor now...
the pattern of the amount of arrows in each measure is 10 notes one measure, 11 arrows the next measure, 10, 11, 10, 11, etc. so I'll just estimate it to 12th notes. 12th notes at the top speed of 680 bpm = 510bpm 16th notes (that's if you were to think of it all as one giant stream and that being the top speed needed) Pardon me if my math is wrong. It's not accurate with the actual speed since I'm just rounding off the 10-11 notes per measure to 12th notes to make it more even. I also notice a LOT of down and up arrows when it reaches 600 bpm. simply put: it's pretty much 300-340 bpm 8th note mini jacks all over the place

I do actually think this song is AA'able but it'll require some specific training and top-notch reading ability (not to mention speed obviously). I think Staiain or Dossar are the closest in terms of the skillset required.

Re: Data Drain Oni
Have you guys even tried to do the ending with a lower cmod? I mean, since the goal is to AA and not AAA, it's definitely a realistic approach.
