Laptop just shuts off.
Ok. I've been on this laptop for ONE day (today) and I'm already having problems with it. It just shuts off without warning. When it comes back on, it's as if it were sleeping. It usually happens when I'm doing something like typing or FFRing. Before you go into into conclusions, it's not overheating at all. This is what I have.
HP Pavilion G series Windows 7 SP1 Intel core i3 4 GB RAM 500 GB Hard Drive Anything I should do to rid this problem? Help would be appreciated.

Are you sure? Can you hear your fan spinning?

Re: Laptop just shuts off.
Not really. When it comes back on I can hear it for a second then it dims down to normal.

How long will it stay on before it shuts off? If it will stay on for at least 5 minutes, put your ear up close to the vent and see if you can hear air movement. If not you probably have a broken fan and you should see if your warranty covers that.

Re: Laptop just shuts off.
I can definitely hear air movement at that point. I don't know why it does it. I think it's another way for life to troll me. x.x

Re: Laptop just shuts off.
If you're computer savvy, boot up your computer and go into the BIOS. There should be a way for you to look at the temperature of the CPU. If you're up in the 60-70 degrees Celsius range after a few minutes, you're overheating.
I really think you're looking at some kind of hardware issue (fan or mobo). If your Windows was taking a dump, you'd be blue-screening all over the place and there would be at least some kind of trace that you had a software anomaly. |

Re: Laptop just shuts off.
call technical support. go through all their steps with the person on the phone(yes i know it takes a while) and eventually they'll cut it down to what could be a couple of problems. Let them do everything they can to fix it, because it's all free for you anyway.
Hardware malfunctions are generally covered by companies, no questions asked. (especially since you've only had it for one day) |

Re: Laptop just shuts off.
I wouldn't worry too much. Laptop turning off is a common side effect of shutting down a computer.
