Default System of a down speaking the truth?

The way i see it System of a Down is Very political in their lyrics. Look at the lyrics of Boom and Bring Your Own Bombs... They mostly talk about how the government is wrong in ways and such. Who agrees that system of a down may be an influence for the better or the worse? I think these lyrics are impowering and a good influence

Hahahaha. You make like System of a Down was the first to do this.

Remember, just because they're public figures doesn't mean they're smart. They've got the same opinions on matters as you and I do. As for their being influential, yeah, I'm sure it works for some people but I doubt there are many who let musicians determine their political views. This is, of course, excluding teenagers too young to vote because they're the most sheep-like when it comes to icons. What I'm getting at is that they're not empowering in the slightest. They're just as empowering as what your neighbor tells you because they are, after all, just ordinary humans not more politically aware than any other.

Okay, so I just read the lyrics. Wow. But whatever.

Personally, I think political musicians are horrible influences because they're so liberal.

Try reading the lyrics from songs in the late 60s and early 70s if you want REAL political messages....

soad is too odd and quirky to be taken seriously. rage is definately better... but, the true artists were from the vietnam ira. They actually had something to sing about, instead of small nickpicking about topics that they generally have no true understanding of.

If you want political messages try watching political debates... hmm I was gonna say that in angry response to this thread, then I remembered you can't even find political messages in debates either, so it doesn't really matter where you go for your useless "information", now does it.

A whole new genre of music. Political Rock. The bands all consist of politicians, and then kids form cults dealing with it, and dress up in suits and ties, and talk properly.

tps I think your thinking about emo bands, without the talking properly part. Or the political part for that matter.

My history teacher has really gotten me into looking for any types of messages in music these days. Like tass said, in the nam era a lot of political, antiwar music was being written. But even back when rock'n'roll was being birthed, messages about sex and counterculture were already being implemented (rock'n'rolling was Southern slang for, um, getting down with a lady).
