12 Days of FFRmas
So , I know this is kind of late, but I noticed every song in the 12 songs was extremely difficult, and I don't mean to sound rude, but why do all of the high skill players get the rewards from that event, but none of the newer generation get anything to try with it. There were 12 songs, was it really that hard to give 1 or 2 songs that a new player could sink their teeth into? If it was, then I retract that statement, and even though I can pass the harder songs, I just feel as though the newer players deserved a song as well.

Re: 12 Days of FFRmas
The answer everyone is going to give you (granted this isn't wrong) is that the easier charts are on reserve for the upcoming official.
But another part of the answer is that a lot of step artists haven't been stepping easier charts (that and or the ones that have been submitted, have not met the judgement standards) so there's a lack of theme in the queue. It wasn't about rewarding the best players, they just used the charts they could spare on hand that they deemed "quality" in an effort to make the event memorable. The reason people tend not to step easier stuff is cause it gets deemed as "boring" by a lot of people. It sucks but this is how it currently is. I honestly would love to see another "easy charts" queue with another "easy chart" event to follow it. I think that'd kind of balance it out a smidgen. At least that answer makes some sense, and I appreciate the answer, I just hope the newer players get some sort of new charts coming up

Re: 12 Days of FFRmas
Apparently the reason why is to attempt and balance out the difficulty distribution of the files in the engine. Something along the lines of "There were too many easy files for starting players to enjoy, but not enough for more skilled players."
I strongly disagree with this mentality, but the majority of the forum posters agree with it, so unfortunately decisions here are based on what the general population thinks. The other main reason is pretty much what Middie said: "the easier charts are on reserve for the upcoming official". I disagree with this mentality too because D1 players get bombarded with files rated ~30, which is really difficult for some starting players. The first few rounds should be a AAA or die round in my opinion. |

Re: 12 Days of FFRmas
I mean, I understand that there are alot of beginner songs, but if you think about it, alot of the beginner songs are from back in the day when songs were not always sync'd properly. So even though there are alot of easy songs, there are also alot of very off sync easy files that end up being much more difficult than intended.

i suppose if "easy" are the VC songs, and we're trying to balance the 1238581258 VC songs with 1238581258 guru songs. FFR logic |

On the whole more easier files etc I think it's unfair to consider VC down as easier files since that seems to be what's happening. Edit: I should mention it was decided to use the 12 days of FFRmas to get out all the token files that had been sitting around for some time unreleased. It just so happened they were harder files and it's true people don't step easier charts. I had to ask for more for the tourney because there weren't enough in the batch.

Re: 12 Days of FFRmas
It seems like the solution to the problem is just we need more step artists willing to step the easy charts.

I stepped an "easier" file last batch and it barely got in. There's the mentality here that if you don't step everything a song has to offer, it's understepped. |

Re: 12 Days of FFRmas
I played most of the files, the only one that truly seemed unplayable to me was the games we played full version, due to sync issues.

Is that sync issue fixed yet?

Re: 12 Days of FFRmas
I always want to try and step some easier songs, but I never find a song I both A) Like enough to step, and B) I'm okay with wasting its potential as a harder file because very few songs ever get a 2nd version

Re: 12 Days of FFRmas
I don't think there's an easy way to fix it since they pretty much had to break Flash itself to be able to put the file in the game.
My suggestion would be to use Flash 11 on the Velocity engine and put the offset at -5. I'm 99.99% sure that's an absolute way to sync the song correctly without going off sync at all. |
