Re: :(
no i'm just really depressed; i failed two classes this semester already and i wouldn't have failed one of them if i could turn everything in when i thought it was due
i thought both the online assignments and the assignments due in person were due tomorrow but they were due last night for the online assignments and at noon today for the in person ones and i didn't turn in any of them i could have gotten an A or B if everything was due tomorrow it's too late now though

Re: :(
Can you talk to your professors for an extension?
Also, get a planner. Or a desk calendar. Something. -o24

Re: :(
Life goes on drizz. That's awful news and I sympathize but it's a love and learn scenario too. As hard as it is to enact discipline you hate complying to, getting stuff done ASAP is the way to go. And learn to engage in the assignments.
There's no three-strikes-you're done for rule here; reflect on ways you can improve your work flow and attitude towards making it happen. And ask for help before it's too late with absolutely no shame.

Re: :(
Um, is the penalty for a 1-day late assignment seriously enough to knock you down 3 letter grades?

Very Grave Indeed

Re: :(
It's shocking to me the differences in countries, schools or even individual professors at a school, for late penalties.
I'm used to either "A full letter grade per day" or "It's late, so zero" |

Re: :(
i know of a professor who treats projects like this (for a programming class): you get like 5% if your project runs. you get 95% if it works completely. if any single test case fails, you get a 5%, but you can resubmit after the fact and take a late penalty. i know a kid who has him and resubmitted one of his projects cuz he got 5%, and it failed 1 test case. the previous 5% that he had got overwritten to a 0% because of that late penalty. l o l

Re: :(
Intro programming classes are usually run like that. If your code is so inundated with errors that you can't even get it to compile, you don't deserve points.
The fact that a single test case failing = 5% also leads me to believe it's an intro class since, that's not even expected on a professional level.

Intro computer science classes are also structured as weed-out classes from what I've seen and that's a different discussion for another day. Also when it comes to due dates, make sure you completely understand when an assignment is due (for example, does Tuesday mean at class at 12 pm or 11:59 PM on that day?). This will help in preventing late submissions. One of the most aggravating parts about being a tutor is when students come to me with an assignment due on the same night. There was a case where a student's professor policy was to submit the first version of the program at 12 pm that day and two weeks after to fix any problems. The student didn't submit before that time and sought help from me for 30 minutes on an assignment he'd be getting zero credit for.

Re: :(
Step 1) Write all due dates in a planner, or have a roommate you share classes with that can keep you in the loop (ayy)
Step 2) Determine how long each assignment should take to complete (this is more difficult on bigger projects so all the more reason to start early) Step 3) Get your damn work finished, even if you've underestimated the length of time needed at least submit something. If you don't finish assignments it's all to do with motivation, you should seriously step back and review your educational and employment goals if you're having issues completing stuff. If you're a grinder and get low marks that's totally different, you should keep pushing for something you want! |
