FFR Livestreaming Database/FFR The Game Accessibility
An idea that popped into my head while streaming.
At one point, we had the FFR file database or whatever. Now, we have a Video database. With the current rise in popularity of livestreaming, I think it might be a nice idea to create a livestream database. This livestream database would both house previously recorded streams, and would display currently live streams (found through the "Playing/Not Playing" tab on Twitch). This can be used to both increase FFR's popularity and individual streamer's popularity as well. The only real difficulty I see with this is getting the database to somehow store previous streams, but that's not necessary at all, really. More important is the currently streaming players. ----------------------------------- Other thing: To a new person visiting the site: I feel like the game itself doesn't really pop out. Someone could very very easily miss the game itself simply because the tab/links that lead to the game don't have anything that really jumps out/makes it blatantly obvious. Just a minor thought.

Funny, I was just thinking of this idea...
I think this should replace the 'FFR Video Database' box on the homepage, and update with the top 3-5 steamers on FFR either playing, or charting. I'm gonna highly +1 this idea. I'd love to see this happen.

Re: FFR Livestreaming Database/FFR The Game Accessibility
I actually tried to livestream FFR, but I couldn't find a setup that would make the game look smooth while recording. I'm kind of curious as to which settings people are using to livestream FFR properly. As for keeping streams, you'll have to record them on your computer and upload them somewhere like youtube if you wish to keep them on long term. If you go in settings and check the "keep archives box" you'll only have semi-permanent streams recording that eventually goes away. The question is more like what should be streamed from FFR? What could keep the audience interested? This game is a lot about self-progression and it's difficult to understand what's really fun about this game while watching others play. It's probably also why top players don't get as much recognition as they might expect because people simply don't even understand what they see.
As for the game accessibility part, Velocity has been slowly working on FFR themes for the main site etc. So, that could turn into another suggestion. Last edited by Hakulyte; 02-17-2014 at 01:21 AM.. |

Streaming, in the end, is just showing yourself playing games you enjoy live. Whether or not the audience likes it or not is one thing. What's most important is if the streamer is happy. If they get a good audience/popularity, it's just icing on the cake, and that's what I'm hoping this can help with.

Re: FFR Livestreaming Database/FFR The Game Accessibility
Well, I didn't mean visually, but more like what settings you have if you're using OBS/Xsplit or whatever. We probably don't see livestreams the same way. If I tried to livestream something it would be not only for fun and experimenting, but also in hope to get feedback as well so it serves a purpose rather than just be showing myself play. There has to be a goal or a reason to bother broadcasting imo. ..but maybe not. Gotta start somewhere.

Re: FFR Livestreaming Database/FFR The Game Accessibility
I use Xsplit. I don't think i've really changed any settings; just added the screen region of where i'm playing and added the microphone. From there I just started playing.

I don't know about adding an entire database to the site for livestreaming, but I wouldn't mind seeing a field added to your profile for your Twitch ID.

I know that the 'Play Now' buttons are being changed, and they are becoming more eye-grabbing on the site, so at least that is a plus.

Re: FFR Livestreaming Database/FFR The Game Accessibility
I recall there being a discussion about this, and justin actually had a webpage that lists this very thing.
http://justin.omniux.net/twitch/standalone_index.php I recall the discussion of wanting this somewhere on the sidebars of the site. Not sure if that's still being explored. |

Re: FFR Livestreaming Database/FFR The Game Accessibility
Velocity confirmed there will be a live streams list in the new site, don't know the details he was going to be using but he did say it would happen. The site I made was temporary to get things started (link Charu posted)
edit: Also don't forgot, visitors to the site see the welcome banner still

Re: FFR Livestreaming Database/FFR The Game Accessibility
You know what would be better then just a live stream list on the site?
A button in R^3 where you can hook up R^3 to twitch to have it automatically stream FFR

Re: FFR Livestreaming Database/FFR The Game Accessibility
Because it's a manually adjusted list right now and I've got better things to do than keep updating it with new streams every week (no offense)
It was more an unofficial thing to get things started and to get working code to Velo to make sure it got into the next release, at least as a minimum.

Re: FFR Livestreaming Database/FFR The Game Accessibility
I know very few games that have this option, but to be honest, I don't see it happening with flash coding.
Unless both arc and velo can come up with something to somehow make it happen. I really doubt it though, dohoho. Besides, it's better if you have the player talking, because the method Xiz wants kind of eliminates that. |

Hmmm... I guess you are right. But you understand my point? Perhaps there is a work around for it.
I don't know. Just spitballing here.

Re: FFR Livestreaming Database/FFR The Game Accessibility
Creating a streaming application that runs in flash sounds like the biggest pain in the ass ever
I like the ideas being thrown around though, so don't take that as discouragement

Oh not at all, I'm glad your telling me what can't be done to hopefully find a way around it, or getting to something that can be done, ya know? ^^
