How do remix permissions work?
Do we need to have permission from artist of the song that is being remixed? Or do we just have to put their name with the artist like blah vs. blah or blah feat. blah?
Sorry if there's already a thread for this but I didn't look very hard to find one. |

Re: How do remix permissions work?
If I remember correctly, you just need the permission from the remixing artist, unless the song doesn't fall under public domain. If it doesn't, then you need permission from the original artist as well

However, there is copywrite reform working its way through congress right now. If enacted, it would allow remixes to be under the same license as Creative Commons. Just hold out for it, you may be able to submit the tune just yet.
Edit: I just noticed that this thread was two weeks old. Regardless, this is something that should be known. |

It depends how much of the original song u can hear but i think u just need to ask permission from the remixer.

Re: How do remix permissions work?
don't we already have songs in game that remix sources we lack permission for?

Re: How do remix permissions work?
The assumption is that the creator of a remix obtained permission for the sample, or feels confident they can make a fair use case if the artist and sampled artist are American.
We can use a remix with only permission of the remixer. If the source band comes to us claiming we are infringing on their copyright, we simply direct them to the person who made the remix, and they get to deal with it. |

Re: How do remix permissions work?
yeah basically only remixer's permission is needed.
and if we directly get complaints from the source author, we might just remove related songs to avoid troubles, in some cases. |
