RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: anyone have any good RPG reccomendations

Don't listen to Squeek, SoA:L is amazing. And not broken like he suggests. He must mean Skull shield and Delta shield. Both great moves, which do make you invulnerable to magic and physical attacks, but most enemies use specials that get by the shields. Plus, you take out two of your best characters by using them. Why you thought you were set is beyond me.

After two crystals you're not even ready for any of the awesomely awesome side quests.

If there's one thing Skies didn't do, it was get repetitive, which couldn't be said for Tales for me. Sure, it was a great game, but I don't think the replay value is there. I was so pumped after beating it that I started again, but quickly lost interest.

Tons of playtime? Skies'll do it for you. It's not a game that you want to play through multiple times simply because you can do everything the first time through and you WANT to. Bounties? Piastol? DISCOVERIES? Way too fun to pass up.

      This is exciting because
      1. Valkyrie Profile was developed by tri-Ace, who also developed Star Ocean, and is totally worship-worthy for that alone.
      2. Motoi Sakuraba did the amazing soundtrack for Valkyrie Profile, and it is likely he will be doing one again for VP2.

Bad news is, I doubt it will be for GCN.

(I've been dying to play the original VP, but it's almost impossible to find for less than $100... x_X )

YAY for tri-Ace. YAY for Sakuraba. Nay for Playstation hogging most of the good RPGs.
I own Valkyrie Profile, as well as pretty much every other PSX RPG ever released in America. I'm pretty sure that the scans circulating are NOT for Valkyrie Profile 2, but rather for a PSP port of the original Valkyrie Profile, which was rather popular in Japan. A sequel to VP would be cool, though. It's the only Tri-Ace game that's not part of a series, right? Baten Kaitos doesn't count because it's by Tri-Crescendo, which is Monolith Soft and Tri-Ace. And it has a prequel announced anyway.

Personally, I would much rather see a sequel to the other PSX RPG starting with a V that got overlooked - Vagrant Story. But I digress.

Anyway, Gamecube. Evolution Worlds, Baten Kaitos, Tales of Symphonia, Fire Emblem, and Skies of Arcadia. Those are basically all of the RPGs available for it, and they're all excellent. Like I said, Baten Kaitos 2, a prequel to the original, has been announced. I believe it's been announced for localization, as well.

Although, I can't imagine why. Baten Kaitos sold HORRIBLY in both Japan and America, despite being a very good game. Meh, still good.

But yeah. There you go. The resident RPG expert's opinion.

BTW: I have the Baten Kaitos OST, as well as every other (good) score Sakuraba has made. (lol he made beyond the beyond) The Baten Kaitos OST comes with the game if you buy it at Toys 'R Us, so go bug Kefit for it. I'm pretty sure it's not the full thing, though. I got that from a torrent ages ago, before the game was even out here.

Sakuraba just gets better and better. It's crazy. VP, then SO3, then BK... He can do no wrong at this point.

Guido: I'll admit, after seeing all 247 episodes of One Piece that are out right now, my interest in Skies is increasing. And if what you say about some enemies being able to break that combination of moves is true, then I might pick it up again.

Moogy: I know you had the OST back when we were on Grouper. I was trying to steal it from you then. I did manage to find it the night I posted about it.

In any event, if I ever ask Kefit for another favor, he'll rant to you guys on a0 and give me a bad reputation, so I won't be doing that.

I was kidding. I really doubt Kefit keeps random promotional items from Toys 'R Us.

Even if he did, just talking to him on AIM once warrants a full-blown rant on a0 or whatever IRC channel you all use.

The only Gamecube online games are PSO Episode 1&2 and PSO Episode 3. Never play them - they're incredibly addicting, yet terrible.

dude i cant stand watching the one piece episodes that arent subbed by [k-f]... they suck the ball sack.

but as a result, i've only seen up to 164... i have three other episodes downloaded (which is where k-f is at, but i'm waiting for a friend to catch up before i watch them)

Baten Kaitos IMO is one of the only good card-based RPGs out there. And FF:CC is only fun with 4 players really. I bought the game thinking it would own, but to my biggest saddening, it sucked monkey nuts.

I'm currently busy playing RPGs from GCN and PS2, but so far Tales of Symphonia was the best. I haven't played Baten Kaitos, sadly, but whoever said Paper Mario 2 was good, they're wrong. The first one was a lot better.

Even with four players in FF:CC, it's still not that hot because of all this crap over who has to carry the stupid chalice, and nobody ever wants to, because it's DAMN BORING. Seriously, that chalice was an awful, awful idea. I've only played with 3 people but i would imagine it's basically the same with four.

but yeah Tales of Symphonia was super fun and Skies of Arcadia and Paper Mario 2 were decent enough (except PM2 was SOOOO EASY). Never played any others.
