This. So many classics on all those platforms. I also think that generation also had the most a e s t h e t i c look imo. Idk why, but I go nuts over that late 90s to early 2000s look. Games like Jet Grind Radio, the Dreamcast Web Browser (lol) and beatmania (US), that kinda stuff. Also the music of that generation was awesome.OG Xbox/Gamecube/Dreamcast/PS2 generation for sure. There is too many great games to court like Super Mario Sunshine, Halo Combat Evolved. God of War, Sonic Adventure 2 & etc. Plus, This generation also marks the beginning of Online Play becoming the norm for next and future generations to come.
This is facts. I feel like gaming isn't really that fun anymore with how bad a lot of new games coming out are. Even if they're aight they still feel kinda soulless. Like they're lacking something.Last edited by Tantive72; 01-28-2022, 04:41 PM.₩ⱧɎ ₳₥ ł ĐØł₦₲ ₮Ⱨł₴

Re: What do you think is the best gaming generation?
I'm a 2D fanboy... so I'm tempted to go with either:
- Fifth generation (PSX and Sega Saturn, for gorgeous pixel-art in numerous 2D games)
- Fourth generation (Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo)
- Indie PC gaming (I guess that's cheating, but there's been a huge renaissance in 2D gaming)
Meh, I think that's a lazy argument. It's hard to consider everything that happened since '85 as homogeneous, there's bound to be some things you value more than others in there. I mean, even within '83 and '85, there's been a huge culture change that could count as 2 distinct generations.
I get where you're coming from, but I hope you're not including indie gaming in that statement. Indie gaming in the past 10 years easily reaches the heights that were reached in the sixth-gen. Even my favorite shoot-em-ups and rhythm games are indies right now (hint hint)Last edited by MarioNintendo; 01-29-2022, 09:36 AM.Comment

Hot damn... Honestly, this past generation will be tough to beat. My heart is more with retro gaming in general, but I think the last 7 years or so have graced us with a bit of everything we could wish for.Forgot where I put my old sig lolComment

those things with value are defined by the talents behind them, not the consoles they were released onMeh, I think that's a lazy argument. Re: What do you think is the best gaming generation?
Sure... But come on, isn't it fun to force ourselves to make a choice at some point, to strike a conversation? To me, your response is technically correct, but no fun. You might as well say "the generation of PCs is the best because it plays all games either natively or through emulation". Then again, where are the boundaries for the generational range of PCs that allow good emulation of recent hardware?
I'll gladly agree to disagree, I don't mean to push you in a corner and force a response. Besides, you even said Dreamcast was probably your favorite generation because of skies of arcadia. Fair enough!Comment

Oh ya, indie games are fun. I haven't played a ton of them, but I've had a lot more fun with them over whatever big AAA games are coming out now.I get where you're coming from, but I hope you're not including indie gaming in that statement. Re: What do you think is the best gaming generation?
My favorite is the 6th gen but I LOVE the 3rd to 6th generations in general, there are cool games in the 1st and 2nd generations but in general u kinda play those games for 10 minutes and then put them down. Anything after the 6th gen is kinda lame imo i dont rly like modern games.
My favorite consoles are Gamecube, Dreamcast, NES, and N64Last edited by FirstMaple8; 01-31-2022, 09:15 AM.Comment

Re: What do you think is the best gaming generation?
I'm not super interested in "console generations" per se, but as far as the evolution of the craft goes, the late 90s--mid 2000s had the biggest gradient in terms of creativity and dedication, in my opinion. (In my mind, the PS1, Dreamcast, and PS2 best characterize this shift.)
I still maintain that the PS2 is the best console ever, by virtue of how versatile and well-rounded its library was. The PSP is the GOAT in terms of handhelds. The gap between smaller studio productions and AAA studios back then didn't feel as large as it does now.
I'm definitely biased though, since I stopped giving a shit about video games after the PS3.Last edited by DaBackpack; 01-20-2023, 11:54 PM.

Re: What do you think is the best gaming generation?
DBP's post stings so hard because it's 100% on the nose.
Believe it or not, there used to be a great stigma against video games before most of you were born, and video games were on their way out of the market as a 'niche' back in 1983-1985 because the Home Computer was just better for handling that sort of aspect and most games at the time were of poor quality.
Honestly if it wasn't for Nintendo releasing the NES and kickstarting a generation of consoles that would domino into competition spanning multiple decades, requiring better performance, better games, better graphics, etc. We might have been forever stuck with indie games, flash games and nothing else.
I also agree that when the PS3 came, video games reached their peak fmpov of what I would consider "Best Gaming Generation", and started on their decline. Of course, you would get the odd outlier like Undertale or Skyrim, but on the years of which those released, it's hard to not acknowledge the biased ratio of how many "good game for every 'x' number of bad games" there are, has increased comparatively to the mid-to-late 2000's.Last edited by gold stinger; 01-21-2023, 01:37 PM.Comment
