But he wasn't town.
So if he's null, why is it so bad to suspect him or place any suspicion on him whatsoever? You should want pressure placed on him to try to determine their alignment in this game.
Why is this a bad thing?

Ultimately, I think the problem with all of this is that you don't seem to have a consistent reason to do what you did re: Xel. At least not one consistent with town.
