Re: Social Media Drama
Social Media drama is, at least for me, a double edged sword. I don't really condone it though because most of the time I just try to stay away from it as often as possibly. There are times when I find myself looking at some dumb stuff someone says - most of the time they're just going off and making NO sense - and in that situation, I'll do one of two things. I'll either politely correct them if they're wrong, or if I know for a fact it's not worth trying, I'll just avoid it completely and let it be someone else's problem because why lose brain cells talking to a brick wall?
But on the other hand, I've found myself doing the exact same thing, ranting about something that I'm passionate about even if I don't have all of my facts straight. But I typically do it to try and get a point across. There have mostly been good things coming out of that (so far) that I appreciate. But then you have those wild idiots that for one reason or another want to say that you're completely wrong even though you've given PLENTY of credible evidence to back up your argument. At a certain point, it becomes too stressful to even deal with idiots, so I just end up blocking those people, especially if I'm on a tirade and just letting it out in a hellish rant about this or that.
Then you have the people that are simply there just for the sake of starting drama. It's easy to tell those people apart from the rest of them because they like to bait post a LOT. I admit that I'm guilty of falling for it sometimes, but I've been more observant in seeing what they're saying and learning the context of what they're saying. Sometimes I'll be a dick and say something completely irrelevant to throw them off as a reverse troll just to see their reaction. Sometimes it works out in my favor, sometimes it works out in their favor. But for the most part, I typically try to avoid any kind of drama altogether because at some point, you just go "fuck it" and scroll on to whatever comes next.
We live in the age of information where any question you ask, the answer is readily available at a moment's notice. Back in the day, we didn't have smart phones that could surf the web or take a picture or shoot a video. We had to go online to look for the answer and back then we had dial-up connections, so getting info back in those days was like a life or death situation in some cases. Nowadays, all you need to do is type your question into google on your phone and bam - you got your answer in less than 2 seconds. IN relevance to that, you also have social media, which in itself is a source of information. But it's also a breeding ground for trolls, shitposters, drama kings/queens and everything in between. Basically, pick your poison of choice and hope the roll you get with the dice is a good one. Because odds are, you're bound to run into a few people that love to start drama just for the sake of it. Also be careful what you post because there's probably someone lurking on your posts or thread (like this one for example) waiting to take anything you say and twist it around entirely, take it completely out of context and use it against you to fit their agenda. (I've seen it happen, and it's also happened to me a few times. It's stupid as hell.)
I don't mind social media in general so long as people are at least mature enough to say "okay, and" this, this, that, this and that thing. It just gets more and more difficult to find reasonable, intelligent, mature human beings on social media and from what I've seen - at least by this point - there's eventually going to come a day where information is misguided and everyone is confused on what to do, where to go, how to get from one place to another, etc. Honestly, I feel a bit jaded whenever I see stuff like that, but at the same time, it's hard to feel sorry for people who just don't get it. Social media has taken over humanity as a whole, and it's only getting worse as more and more drama just stirs itself up. Some of it IS comical; I enjoy a good laugh. But most of it stuff that you look at and go "Why?" Most of the drama I have seen - and some of you might feel the same way - is completely unnecessary, and even I'll admit that I'm guilty of that corner of social media as well.
Overall, social media has become this cesspool of pointless arguments and needless drama for the sake of boredom. But there is SOME good that does come out of it. For one thing, it shows who some people really are on the inside because some people just end up exposing themselves in those situations. So in a way it does help make it easier to decide who to keep in mind on occasion and who to avoid entirely. As far as I can tell, that's the only good that comes out of social media drama.
