OST and mechanics wise, you got it confused with Fates. Awakening's soundtrack is far from bad as well, and both have some pretty good characters.

Plotwise (and also mechanicwise tbh), Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn.

I was stuck for like two fucking years on that part because it was my first RPG and I was trying to not do battles so I could experience the story. I finally forced myself to grind enough to get Rikku to poison the fuck with her Limit even though he's suppose to be immune to it.
