Honestly Final Fantasy X is an excellent introduction to the series and if you're not wanting to play it for whatever reason flip a coin for V or VI

I feel like X2 should be thought of as like... an expansion or something since it reuses pretty much all the maps. (Most of the time)

Personally, FFX

Loved the story driven aspect of it and the battling system (since you could revolve characters around to plan ahead)

I tried playing FFVII a year or so ago and I don't get the fuss with that one.

FFX is godtier and I will nightkill anyone that says otherwise

Depends on what you want in an RPG:

Want a gameplay heavy classic one? III or V (V really)

Want one known for the story? VI, VII or VIII

Want a newer "updated" RPG system? XII or XV

Want my personal recommendation on what I think got everything right? X.

X2 does not exist.

Vi/VII/VIII or X probably will be first, then. X would be most likely due to console/game availability tho assuming I use a legit physical console
