If he does another 30 day attempt at 12 hours a day, I could see him get low-mid 1:43 or even 1:42. He hasn't had a strong attitude to smashing sm64 in a long time. He probably felt burnt out trying to get 1:43 after so long (1 year+ when he got 1:43:54.) Puncay may have lit the fire again for sig.

he's not really trying very hard to get his records back atm, but I have a feeling that when he starts doing regular runs again, he'll take them back.

I'm a SM64 runner myself and I found myself getting burnt out after only a few months of it, let alone 12 hour days

speedrunning is inherently tedious/repetitive -- and SM64 is long + has a high skill barrier. Like, even if I were to try to replicate even one trick of Sig's, I'd probably find it difficult. His mastery of the camera toggles is pretty awesome

I wouldn't call SM64 long (at least not by speedrunning standards, although it certainly is longer than any reasonable FFR/Stepmania file). I guess it doesn't really matter though, because 12 hours of gameplay is 12 hours of gameplay - a relatively short game or category just means you can do more attempts in a day. Of course, SM64 definitely demands a very high level of skill, precision, and consistency - it's surely one of the more technical speedrun games.

SM64 is relatively short, yes. A 100% run is about 4 hours for the most novice runner (that knows the route and basic strats), and half that for an experienced player.

FYI, 3/4 of the camera toggles sig does are just for fun and have no effect on the speed of the run whatsoever

Short compared to other games, yes, but IMO it's tough to keep focus and skill up that high for hours on end. Some tricks are easier than others, but still -- super tough overall
