Breaking some of my speedmod records today because holy shit.
(for the record, I play in fullscreen on a 1080p 15" laptop screen and I'm using judge offsets to make up for a lack of reaction time)

I started around a modest 9x, since my current comfort speed is 7x and 8x isn't really much of a step up from that.

12x, I suck at those jumpgluts so much for no apparent reason

15x is surprisingly playable, but I screwed this all up at the end. It's super hard to read the note spacing at this speed and you just can't blink.

After all this I think I'll start playing around 8x-10x from now on. Maybe 9x will become my default speed, breaking that 10x barrier is a bit tough but definitely doable.

arcnmx, I'm wondering if you could provide a video outside of just the game screen to see what the high speed modifiers look like for you. I looked at Chik Habit's replay and recorded the ending, this is what it looked like

Basically on my screen I see:
- Just blue and red notes. (this is just your noteskin)
- When I slowed down the recording to around 25% speed, the individual steps were shown with long spacing. On normal speed, I see a bunch of "pseudo-hands" and "pseudo-quads" with a mix of blue and red.
- It's like a stop-motion animation where the rapid succession of frames makes it appear like there are doubles, hands, and quads with blue and red notes, even though when slowed down that's not the case.

1x on R^3 I've been told feels like c240 on Stepmania, so 15x is over c3000. It might look different on your screen which is why I'm asking this, because on my laptop screen it just looks like a bunch of pseudo hands and quads.

Hm, yeah, I could try recording a video. I doubt my computer will be able to both play and record Flash at 60fps though so it probably won't look as accurate as the in-game replay does. Your video looks about right though, just slightly lower framerate. At those speeds you don't really see arrows coming down but instead see basically an arrow trail as tall as the game screen. So instead of reading the space between notes in visual space you read it by how often the arrows appear on screen I guess.
Another thing to note is that it's actually a lot easier to read when watching it as opposed to when playing. Watching at 15x I can actually see what's going on and read the real chart. When I'm playing I feel like I see nothing but lines of arrows filling the entire screen. Not really sure why that is but speeds always look so much slower when watched vs. playing.

Let's do the math though, just for fun. 1x is 300 pixels per second, and R^3 is 480 pixels tall. So an arrow will appear on screen for 1.6 seconds at 1x (96 frames at 60fps).
15x is 4500 pixels/sec. and will appear on screen for 0.11 seconds (110 ms or 6.6 frames).

Maybe I should try and see how I would do on Stepmania. I've tried it a couple times but only been playing around c1300
EDIT: Tried SM, anything above c2500 is uncomfortable, c2400 is pretty nice though.
