k my point still stands. Too much hate.
isn't Pokemon fine as a Linear RPG anyway? I've never even heard of a nonlinear RPG anyway. wat is this. How would they make it nonlinear?Comment

Re: Pokemon X and Y(6th gen) trailer
You haven't heard of a NON-linear RPG? Oh dear, you are already corrupted by todays shitty games haha

Re: Pokemon X and Y(6th gen) trailer
Please explain this, I can't really name some off the top of my head and I was raised on NES and SNES. Unless you're not talking about the games of yesterday? Storyline forces a game to be linear. Even if it's not restricting you, that's just less and less linear. The fact that it is there means that it is guiding you in a line. I can't even name one RPG that was nonlinear from "yesterday", sorry.
edit: k I'll read those examples. I was replying too soon I guess. Sorry.
edit2: oh hmm maybe I'm just thinking of nonlinear in the wrong way.Comment

Re: Pokemon X and Y(6th gen) trailer
Honestly, I can't give you any good opinions about Pokemon. It's been too long since I've last played the game.
I was only referring to linear RPGs. I don't know whether or not Pokemon has a linear path. However, I couldn't leave your statement unchallenged.
As for the hate, I guess that remains debatable.Comment

Re: Pokemon X and Y(6th gen) trailer
Pokemon is linear in a main quest kind of perspective that you have to get the badges, in a certain order, to challenge the Elite Four and the Champion. (always)
They are non-linear with pretty much anything else, be it side-quests, legendaries etc. -- not all will do / see these, nor do they have a set order you must do them in, but may or may not require certain prerequisites to be done in the main story line (legendary doesnt appear til champion is beaten etc.)
Other RPGs have a non-linear main quest with branching choices etc. (see: Mass Effect etc.)
Hope that makes sense. Also I actually enjoy the formula that pokemon uses of linear main quest, non-linear end game and optional content. "Don't fix whats not broken" applies here, imo.Last edited by Coolboyrulez0; 01-10-2013, 02:39 PM.Comment

Re: Pokemon X and Y(6th gen) trailer
it basically applies the formula from the last game and gives it a little twist or jerk into the direction they desire. You follow a story determined path and then go wherever you want after the game is done to activate the nonlinear post story.
Ninja'd
I don't see how you can fix a game for everyone to like anyway. Stating your opinion on what you want in the game is only going to bring conflict into a thread, regardless. Though, debates as debating goes is probably healthy. Just keeping it more pleasant was what I wanted to see.Comment

Re: Pokemon X and Y(6th gen) trailer
It's next to impossible to get everyone to enjoy a game.
If this were a problem that needed to be fixed, every game would be broken.
Also, I really don't see too much hate in this thread, well blind hate. I see people talking about what they dislike about the franchise and what could happen in the next series of games. But, that doesn't seem like a problem.
This thread doesn't seem to be a 'only talk about what you like about Pokemon' thread.
Honestly, the only problematic hate I see is coming from those claiming others are hating.Last edited by dragon890x; 01-10-2013, 02:50 PM.Comment

Re: Pokemon X and Y(6th gen) trailer
The last Pokémon game I played was I guess 2nd gen with Gold/Silver versions, so I don't have much of a say in this, but I'll share my opinions. Firstly, I stopped playing because I didn't feel like keeping up with the massive additions of Pokémon added per version release. The gameplay is essentially the same (certainly in my opinion) in every game as Pseudo Enigma, Dragon and CBR have discussed and I don't want to jump into a debate about it, so I'll leave it at that. I remember in Gold version, I had an Ampharos who was probably twenty levels ahead of every other Pokémon in my party. I went into Silver Cave or whatever and faced Red, saving my Ampharos for last iirc. My entire party fell taking down I think one of his pokémon for all their efforts. Then my Ampharos jumped in, used Thunder and Thunder Punch and took out the rest of Red's Pokémon singlehandedly. So, the one hitter quitter type Pokémon also deterred me from playing more.
As for the newest addition, I feel it will be the same deal. However, I am open to the new 3D aspects. I imagine, considering their devotion to developing games for handheld devices, they are trying to get the most they can within the time constraint out of what the 3DS offers in terms of -improved- gameplay. Thus, the 3D aspect, changed camera angle, more cinematic battle mode and the falsely increased free roaming additions (falsely in my opinion, it's just the running look of the character's movement) are the developers simply attempting to offer something fresh given their new platform to design for.
I won't be picking it up, as I've apparently missed some important things in the mean time and don't have a 3DS. If I were as excited about this game as I was about Halo 3, where I went out and bought a 360 as well as the previous Halo installments, I would definitely get a 3DS.

When the game isn't fun for you anymore, take a break. It's not a job, nobody here is professional and getting paid to play and force themselves to constantly improve... it's a game.

Re: Pokemon X and Y(6th gen) trailer
so i started back up pokemon white 2 again today to see why I had stopped playing it.
I just want to have pokemon battles, catch pokemon and things of the sort. what the FUCK is up with this movie making fashion show garbage? completely ruins the flow of the game for me, and I'm really not interested in being force fed this aids concept. this is not what pokemon is about.

Re: Pokemon X and Y(6th gen) trailer
Oh I just ran through pokemon black 2 while I was sick and stuck at home last week
You don't have to do much of anything from those two? iirc you only have to make one "movie" which takes all of 3 minutes, and you can completely ignore the fashion show nonsense. It's aids but you don't have to suffer it that long...agreed that it's completely gimmicky though and a far cry from the excellent pokemon contests from gen IV. Give me the battle subway anytime
