FFR's 7th official tournament has reached its 5th round of play, and there has been a great amount of hype going into each and every round. If you didnt have a rival prior to this tournament.. check the score boards for your division, cause those people are now your rivals. Speaking of hype, I recently caught up with TC_Halogen, and thought I would get his insight on the tournament thus far:
FFR is hosting its 7th official tournament with alot of interesting prizes, and a great amount of participants. How do you feel the tournament has been going as far as file choices, division placements, and the overall tournament itself?
To be fairly honest, the divisional placements were under par. Placements were nearly immediately complained about, and continued all the way up to the beginning of round 4, unfortunately. The songs that the tournament has had have been pretty good; there's a very small few that I haven't liked -- however, the ordering of some of these songs could have been a bit more thought out (like Since 1983 being a AAA or die round with 7 more people going through than normal, or Yellow Leaves being considerably easier in D4 than their first round, Addict). I am enjoying myself this tournament, but I have a tendency to enjoy myself in just about any tournament because I do have a strong competitive side that I like to keep hidden away. I'm actually going to gun really hard for a win, even though my modesty says otherwise. Actually pulling it off against this field, though... we'll see.
Who would you say surprised you the most, to your knowledge, in each division. (im sure you wont know everyone from every division)
Man, let me tell you something -- I really was interested in how well MikeShinoda was going to do after his impressive finish in D5 during the last official tournament, and he has impressed me quite a bit. That average-flag on Sleepmix Strikes Back really caught my attention and grabbed a special place -- I so want to see him go on to top 8, and I'd want to see him be the dark horse that beats someone HUGE in this tournament, even if that means myself. You can do it, man - believe in yourself.
Where do you see yourself placing in your division (d6)?
Every year that I've played in an official tournament, from the fourth and on, I've received 4th prize (the reason I say 4th prize is because I got 5th place in the fourth official, but Shashakiro was a staff member and got no prize). With that being said, there's a very consistent trend of me making top 5 every year. As far as where I see myself placing -- it's all dependent on the song choice for round 7, and who's left at that point. Something very speedy/brutally draining on round 7 can leave me dead against EzExZero, something really bursty can make Zyphoror a dangerous threat, and something extremely jack-heavy can make One Winged Angel a threat too. I don't consider myself having too much space for error since I feel like AlexDest and samurai7694 are definite shoe-ins for the final round. As far as the other players remaining, anything is possible. A single sick run is what it takes to kill a titan, and anyone can pull it off at this point of the tournament.
With dossar dropping out of the official tournament, does that motivate you to potentially call yourself the winner of d6?
Nothing is ever guaranteed. I'd love to say yes, but anything can happen in the future rounds -- there are only a few files that can play to my weaknesses, but those files do exist and I can be pulled out of the tournament just as quickly as I thought I could win. When the final rounds come, I try to keep a level head and set goals for what I can get, and make those goals tighter and tighter. I went from over 100 goods on my Myriagon [Oni] file on Dragons Fury down to 21-1-1-3 with this mentality and a little bit of work.
You have managed to AAA every rounds file in your division.. which rounds file would you say you had the most difficulty, if any, with?
For me, this tournament was looking to be an absolute cakewalk. THEN, Phi-dentity Crisis came in. Holy christ, things got really serious at that point. I was actually worried about not making it past Phi-dentity Crisis when the round started, because I was struggling to get under the 20 good mark. After warming up though, my hands took to the patterns and my score started drastically decreasing, and eventually, the AAA came. Believe me, my hands were shaking and my heart was racing after this one, and this is only a sign of things to come.
Can you give everyone your thoughts on top 3 in d6?
Luis (samurai7694), Alex (AlexDest) are more than likely going to be two of the top three players, unless something absolutely ridiculous comes that plays to their weaknesses, and they don't have many. As far as the other person, it's out in the open.
This is gay, everything after the 41 32nd trill I'm very consistent at hitting, so as soon as I pass that trill with the AAA, I turn into a huge fuccen pile of nerves ~_~
Reality says sup
You killed Reality eventually just like Phidentity tho, so gz
Every division now has their own AAA now
God seriously, t'was so tedious being consistent in this song, don't know why. Had to BF it almost 5 times before I could get to the golden place :\ And I won't even start talking about the two final blackflag runs. I got both goods in the last -20 notes. ._______.''
Keep up everyone from D3, really hope the best for all of you!
