From what i can see, there are some issues with ghosting (probably shooting wide open), but I'm guessing it's not absolutely terrible. But for the price, you're not going to have the same kind of optics system all around. The image isn't as defined, or as sharp as you would have with a lens dedicated to defining the details at the 500mm length. That's the issue I see with it-- it can certainly reach 500mm well, but the image details it reports back with are not precise enough to get you an image you'd probably be really happy with.
Depends what you're going to be using it for, I suppose. For certain styles of imagery or video, it would work fine.
For the price, I would recommend looking for something else that can reach up to the 500mm range (or equivalent on a crop sensor camera) that doesn't have a constant f/8 aperture, and perhaps has a zoom. But alas, it depends what you want to use it for.
