I think the Christmas episode is one of the best yet, but it was also the first episode where I totally understood where Chaz was coming from about Pinkie Pie being reduced to hackneyed comic relief. Her role was pretty irritating.

Pinkie Pie has always been like that. She was always supposed to be random and crazy but in a fun way. I just really don't see any change here.

Actually, I agree with Chaz for the first few episodes of the series. Pinkie had one or two lines and they were just random pointless jokes.

I'd say from ep10 onward, including the most previous episode, her character has been more and more defined. We still need that Pinkie episode though.

Characters are always broad archetypes in the beginning of a series. The writers don't develop a complete characterization that early because those traits need to be introduced. But for whatever reason they backed off. Of course she is random and crazy. But it's how the writers are using the character that bothers me. Instead of her randomness and craziness being central to the plot, it's just thrown in to get a quick laugh. I don't like that. It's not that her character isn't defined. It is. I just want those traits to be pivotal to the episode rather than comic relief.

All I really want is another Pinkie-centered episode.
