Perfectly describes this tournament.

"Technology Trigger" — The first phase of a hype cycle is the "score trigger" or breakthrough, round launch or other event that generates significant popularity and interest.

"Peak of Inflated Expectations" — In the next phase, a frenzy of publicity typically generates over-enthusiasm and unrealistic expectations. There may be some successful scores from a player, but there are typically more failures.

"Trough of Disillusionment" — Players enter the "trough of disillusionment" because they fail to meet expectations and quickly become unfashionable. Consequently, the community usually abandons the topic and the player.

"Slope of Enlightenment" — Players realize that they are downing themselves, so they start to produce more scores.

"Plateau of Productivity" — Players realize that they can only get mildly above-average scores, and are happy with it.
