We have both the legacy engine and the Velocity engine, and most people say that it works just about the same in terms of lag -- the Velocity engine on DF is fairly close to the in-game Velocity engine, and the legacy engine has all of the drop shadows/special effects that cause more of a CPU load removed.

I also store previous versions of the legacy engine that I've worked on, so if the 12/20 version is causing problems, I have a few other ones.

The velocity engine isn't loading for me, legacy works fine though.
