It doesn't matter. As an example, generations ago it was considered rude to not address your dad as "sir". Generations from now, kids will think it's weird that swearing was considered offensive. There's nothing we can do to stop this. It's just evolution.

I wasn't addressing you with my post, ryden. Good one.Originally posted by rydenHSIf you were smart and listened to me i said "NOT FOR PORN" so why would I want it? I all ready have enough on my K: drive. Anyway, I was just saying that because im not sure if you noticed but bemani style has a whole section for that.
Anyway, tny, fewer people would be on FFR if we were so liberal as to do away with swear filters. Plenty of kids have parental controls on, and we don't need to be keeping people away from this site just because some people wanted to do something that was completely unnecessary. Just because most teenagers will swear doesn't at all mean that people won't mind it. You have to consider the parent of the teenager as much as the teenager himself when you want to keep something family-friendly.
And isn't swearing offensive by definition? There will always be people who don't like swearing, so, like Cen said, we don't need to be fueling the fire.

I say that either have none or all of the bases covered.
Until I petitioned for change, the "n-word" still appeared uncensored, quite often. Either censor all of the bad language, or none of it. Makes sense to me.

They aren't as offensive anymore BECAUSE people use them so much now. They were supposed to be offensive, but people abused them so much because it was 'cool' to be offensive. Now people are trying to find new ways to offend. Some of us just don't care to jump down the drain with the rest of society.Originally posted by ThEclipseI really don't get what the deal is with swear words are why they are considered so "bad" to some people.
They're just words, that are commonly used just for emphasis on something and people act as if it's something horrible.Comment

Maybe so, but even if you look at it from a statistical standpoint, you will get more members, and keep more members with the censoring.Comment

I think the swear filter is kind of pointless. We can get around it. Plus this site is 13 and up. I agree with how Synth wants the site, but the filter is just annoying. It reinforces the negative uses of swearing because it's filtered.
My view on cursing is in the cursing topic, so I'll refrain from repeating myself.Comment

I would imagine that Synthlight, being a parent and all, is very much for offering a sort of protection from foul language for the younger generation.
If anything, the swear filter should force us to come up with more creative ways to express ourselves. I'd be lying if I said I didn't swear, but I'm also aware of how unintelligent using such language makes me sound. Not swearing just makes a person much more respectable or credible. On my rowing team, if a rower swears, her entire boat is supposed to do fifty pushups for each dirty word. If a coxswain swears, her boat must do one hundred pushups for each dirty word (this is because the coxswain has a microphone and can be heard much more easily by others outside of the boat). I wish this rule was enforced more, because the stroke-lady in my boats has a terribly foul mouth, and I only recently realized how embarrassed she can make me. When we stayed at a Methodist Boys Ranch for spring training, we constantly had to remind her to watch her mouth in the presence of our hosts, and this weekend at our regatta, I was sad that in front of all those famous crews, she could not think of anything better to say.
Anything else I could say about this has already been said. Forgive me for being traditional.Comment

You're not being traditional per se. It's just there are certain times and/or places where swearing is inappropiate, meaning you'll offend people, embarrass yourself, or embarrass the people around or associated with you (like your example).
I know I look stupid sometimes for swearing in table tennis. But I also make my friends laugh at it by doing it in silly ways, and I'm not serious/angry about it. I get frustrated and if I do end up get really frustrated, I kind of shut my mouth and keep quiet.
I might throw my paddle too. XD Yes, that does look stupid. At least I'm not like these one 'tards who were whipping the paddles from the front desk all over the place, smacking the table with them, and nearly hitting many people throughout the hour or so they were playing whenever they threw their paddle. It was rediculous.
So like that paddle example, swearing can vary a lot in degree and form.Comment

Heck is the pussy version of hell
Sorry, I meant to say something better, but I didn't
Isn't that how it always works out?
Anyway, I promise not to offend the 13-18 year olds on this site, so help me GOD.
And I'll try not to use God and Jesus so much in my posts as well, as I obviously don't believe in either of them in a religious way (so the most that will happen is I'll stop capitalizing "god")
I'm not in this game of life to piss people off, though it helps sometimes.Signatures are ignorant.Comment

I don't really understand why you would think of people not coming to this site as a bad thing, necessarily.
I mean, I'd rather have quality, over quantity. But it's not my forum. But then again, Synthlight wouldn't have as much fun if it weren't for rambunctious juveniles like me, and....the other idiots.
Just one more thing to say.
