Re: Have you been accepted to college yet?
Yeah, I'm really thankful to be going to a state school in this case. Undergrad aerospace engineering here is just about second to none, as far as I know. Maybe bested by Embry-Riddle or some place like that that completely specializes in aero, but for the price, it's a great deal.
Were I going to a school that was twice as expensive like you did, then I'd definitely be having second thoughts about grad school too.
Failure rates in this program are above 50% too (I think my class of 2006 started with 130 kids and we have about 55 left), so if you can make it, you're one of few. I don't know anyone with an aero degree who doesn't have a job, haha. If they don't, it's out of shear laziness.Last edited by foilman8805; 12-11-2009, 05:30 PM.Comment

Yeah, definitely. Again, it all depends on your situation and career goal. For some, grad school is a great option. For others like me, it may just be a needless additional cost with limited upside.Comment

Re: Have you been accepted to college yet?
That actually applies to undergrad too. A bunch of jobs don't require or benefit from any degree at all.
I'm actually lovin the hell out of my first year of college. It's so much less restrictive than prep school holy **** I can finally go outside past ten. ~_~
Admittedly, my parents/grandparents are funding all of it, so I'm currently in kind of a guilt trip over being really lazy and wasting money. One way I've managed to improve is calculating the average cost of each class you skip. I haven't missed one since I did. It's pretty scary.

It does apply to undergrad too, but your options are quite closed off without a college degree nowadays. It's really hard to find work that is on-par in that scenario. It's just that the variance in options tend to overlap a bit once you approach grad/doctorate levels, whereas that overlap is not so profound between HS and college. Although in this economy, things have changed a bit (even college grads are resorting to work that they could have had right out of high school). That actually applies to undergrad too. And yeah, each class is quite expensive. But you're really paying for a lot more than just class, which is why it's priced so high.Comment

I got rejected by four colleges and accepted by another four.
Went to one of them and now I'm paying $55,000 a year without getting a single dime as scholarship.Comment

Re: Have you been accepted to college yet?
I was accepted to both waterloo and queen's, both of which have two of the best undergraduate business and MBA programs in the country, but apparently I had to go in to write some sort of entry exam after acceptance which I forgot to do, so I had to settle for mcmaster
oops
and yeah, I have some pretty retarded stories about some of the most intelligent people I know not being accepted to post-secondary institutions that aren't even top ten in the country for the program they applied forLast edited by One Winged Angel; 12-11-2009, 07:50 PM.

The teachers and classes are amazing, and it's high for three reasons from what I can see.
1) A lot of people think "Oh, computers sounds like it'll make me a lot of money" then end up hating it
2) Prior to entering the course, to pass you really do already to have a very sturdy background in computers. Since this can not be testing with marks, and it's not like the course is overflowing, they let people who don't have a chance, they do warn you before hand. On the first day they were like "If you don't think you can do this, drop out". You aren't considered a drop out until the 3rd week.
3) It's just very rigorous. The first hardware class we had, we had to learn how a PSU learns inside and out. Input Capacitors, output capacitors, railing system, AT, ATX, BTX motherboard form factors, and that's just the tip of the iceberg for the first class. First semester is also apparently "easy"
God please avoid business if you can. It's so saturated you're going to be unemployable when you graduate unless you get lucky or have hookups. Also have you tried for Shoelick if you are trying for business? It's on York's campus. Regardless of what people say York is fun times.I was accepted to both waterloo and queen's, both of which have two of the best undergraduate business and MBA programs in the country, but apparently I had to go in to write some sort of entry exam after acceptance which I forgot to do, so I had to settle for mcmasterComment
