Re: Super Smash Brothers Brawl
On the contrary, it's pretty awesome.
Like I said before, it forces developers to put time and effort into their games so they don't have to send out replacement discs. And like I said before, Activision is the first company to fall victim to this with Guitar Hero III.Comment

Re: Super Smash Brothers Brawl
What, you mean replacement disks? I seem to recall a couple of Nintendo games that had game-breaking errors. I think WW: Touched! had an error where it wouldn't work on certain first-generation DSs for a couple of the minigames.postcount += 1

Re: Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Back on the subject of Brawl, leak-fever is consuming SmashBoards. Apparently some guy posted a video of a 21-character starting roster for Brawl on YouTube. You can find it here.
There's also a 35-character final roster rumor going around, and there have been several "proofs" and "debunks," and I can't be bothered reading them all.
Just relaying gossip, not saying that any of this is necessarily true.
As an aside, here are the characters as claimed by the 35-character roster:
Mario
Luigi
Peach
Bowser
Donkey Kong
Diddy Kong
Yoshi
Wario
Link
Zelda
Ganondorf
Young Link (Wind Waker-style)
Samus
Pit
Ice Climbers
Captain Falcon
Kirby
Meta Knight
King Dedede
Captain Olimar
Fox
Falco
Wolf
R.O.B. (See note at bottom)
Pikachu
Pokemon Trainer
Lucario
Jigglypuff
Marth
Ike
Ness
Lucas
Mr. Game and Watch
Snake
Sonic
Note about R.O.B.: This has been the primary subject of dispute in determining the validity of this roster. Apparently, all possible versions of R.O.B. were deconfirmed by pictures showing them as trophies (since something being a standard trophy makes it extremely unlikely that they will be playable). However, there were some counterarguments, and rejoinders, and I didn't pay much attention past that point.
I'm not going to bother thinking about whether or not the whole thing is true, because we'll know more or less everything in terms of developer-intended gameplay within two weeks.Comment

Re: Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Come on people.
This is not the 1990s.
Learn how to take video footage of things.
@Relam: Since you didn't write the list and don't endorse it, this isn't really directed at you.
Ridley has been rumored to be a playable character for over a year now. And the voice actress who does Krystal's American voice has Brawl on her credits page.
Thus, I highly doubt that list is final.
Also, R.O.B.? ROB is not a video game character.Comment

Re: Super Smash Brothers Brawl
I believe there was a character called R.O.B. in StarFox 64? There was some mention of that over at SmashBoards. I've never played the game, so I've no way of knowing for sure, but some people are claiming that that R.O.B. is the one referenced.Last edited by Relambrien; 01-22-2008, 10:46 PM.Comment

Re: Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Even if it's that ROB, he's an NPC. He's a maintenance bot.
He's the last person from Star Fox I'd think to include in the game.
@zidart: an unlockable bonus character in a spin-off from a franchise is not a character worthy of Brawl. Main characters from franchise hits. That's it.
R.O.B. was designed for two NES games. Neither of which starred R.O.B.
So you're right. No chance he's in Brawl.Last edited by Squeek; 01-23-2008, 12:25 AM.Comment

Re: Super Smash Brothers Brawl
ROB is an entity, a being of Nintendo, whether you like it or not. He was important enough to Nintendo to use as a character in Starfox and in Mario Kart. Really, it's silly to find an excuse why he wouldn't be in. This is Sakurai who's making the game, after all.postcount += 1

Re: Super Smash Brothers Brawl
ROB in StarFox != R.O.B.
Also. Neither of them are playable characters in a franchise series. That's rule #1 for character choices. Like I said before, a cameo appearance in a spin-off series is not even remotely related to someone like Mario who is the main character in like 50 games.
Off the top of my head, I can't think of a game where you actually play as Zelda or Sheik, however there are exceptions to the rule when you appear in every game in the franchise.
ROB? You don't even see ROB until Starfox ADVENTURES, the piece of **** game for Gamecube that absolutely nobody liked. And guess who was actually playable in that game? Krystal! The girl whose voice actress confirmed a speaking role for Super Smash Brothers Brawl!
Of course, she could be an Assist Trophy. She could just be background noise for Corneria. She could just be a part of Fox's Adventure Mode. But one thing is for certain: she's a more likely candidate than ROB.Last edited by Squeek; 01-23-2008, 02:11 AM.Comment

Re: Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Also, nobody talked about Tuesday's update: Manaphy.
That's gonna be sick. Of course, no-item freaks don't get to enjoy it, but it would be such an awesome addition to your kind of close-range fighting. For just a short time frame, you have to play as the other guy's character. That's just excellent.Comment
