Zelda games rule!! I like Mario too, but it isn't as adventurous as the Zelda games. As for Metroid, I don't really play Metroid games.

Re: Whats a better franchise? Mario, Metroid, or Zelda?

I say Metroid because they provide a nice level of difficulty and the transition to 3-D didn't suck when it had the potential for disaster. I hate shooters, but I love the Prime series. The 2-D games, particularly Super Metroid, manage to take a simple idea and make a fun and deep game out of it.

Each game sticks to some element of traditional Metroid gameplay, but they put enough variety in each version to make the game experience different every time. I also like the storylines, which is odd considering the storylines aren't that well developed. Metroid games tend to give the player a better overall experience and accomplishment upon completing it.

The big criticism of Metroid is that the series is formulaic, but the same could be said of Zelda. My biggest criticism of Zelda is not only the formulaic gameplay and the lack of any real difficulty. The puzzles are great, but they range from being fun and clever to annoying and frustrating.

Mario games don't stick to a strict formula, though they follow similar ideas. No two Mario games (barring SMB and SMB2 JP) can be said to play exactly the same whereas Zelda and Metroid games seem to be frequently guilty of this. The difference is that Mario games don't provide much in terms of difficulty, storyline, or depth. They're simple games to learn, which is why the franchise is so popular among casual gamers.

            Zelda, easily.

The story-lines have always been really good (I don't know about anyone else, but I liked OoT and MM particularly), the puzzles are always there to keep you guessing.

As a few have said, Mario is good, but it seems to be geared toward the younger group of gamers. And Metroid is just, well, meh (for lack of a better word)

The games are absolutely nothing alike so it really just depends on your prefrance...personally I like Zelda, then Metroid, and the Mario series was good then Nintendo gay'd it up.

Megaman is the best out of all of them.

Re: Whats a better franchise? Mario, Metroid, or Zelda?

Im going to have to go with Metroid. Zelda was a close match but Metroid takes it. I absalutely loved Super Metroid when i first got it...even if i wasnt smart enough to figure out what to do in it way back then XD. Then the prime series came out and pulled off a VERY clean change into a 3D series, even if the puzzles arent as hard. All three prime games (excluding Hunters) have been amazing and blended extremely well into one another. Graphics are amazing, gameplay is some of the best ive ever had, and storyline, as i stated, is the greatest ive ever played through. I didn't choose Zelda because even though its story lines are all good, the gameplay is great, and the graphics are sweet (in Twilight Princess). But they storylines in them dont blend as well as metroid does. Metroids events are much closer together than the events that take place in the Zelda series. Where in Zelda there could be 100 years separating two of the games, in the metroid series the spread between Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is 6 months. This leads to better character development and known history to who your playing as...leading to a more entertaining story line. As for Mario games, they've become too childish for me to even want to play. The origional games were so fun, and so was Mario 64. But then Mario Tennis came out and the series started to go down hill. It's become too childish with games such as Paper Mario, or even Super Mario Sunshine. I've just lost all reason to buy Mario games any more...well thats the end of my rant thanks for reading all about how much of a nerd i sounded like lol ........oh and these are just my personal opinions so what i said about Paper Mario isnt necessarily true to some one else so please dont flame me for it, ik some people like it....im just one of the people who doesnt.

Basically what Sulfer said, but I choose Zelda simply because I can enjoy them all. A Link to the Past may be my favourite game EVER (yes ALttP, not Ocarina).

I played ALOT more Mario, but as far as a better franchise goes...Zelda hasnt gayed up like the newer Mario games have, so dispite liking the older Marios better, Im going Zelda

i'll go to zelda. because i played every zelda and none of them bad in other words for me is the perfect franchise, but metroid and mario (the normal and the paper one) are close enough
