I totally support this. However I just don't see it happening because every layout would have to be sliced as they are all unique (as far as I know) requiring photoshop and flash skills both....

Sorry I assumed it was done with Photoshop ;) I haven't used GIMP much but I remember a site called www.gimp-tutorials.com I'm not sure if it's up anymore but I remember there being good tutorials :)

I have to say, I like the 5th from the top, the brown one, a lot. Do you have a bigger version of it? And I also suggest you look through www.good-tutorials.com and the Photoshop section in there,...

Totally with you in this. I know they're trying to cut down the number of AAA's, and in a sense putting stupid files in the game helps, but not in a friendly way.
