New TV, slow gaming reaction time :/

    Ok so yesterday I bought a new TV: LG, 1080p, 120Hz, 47", DEL, 3D.
Here's my problem; When I play games, the reaction time is really slow (near half a second) and well, I can't play with that. Everything flows really well though and graphics are nice. HDMI cable is a good one. Would anybody have an idea on where that problem comes from ??? Oh and the guy who sold me the TV said I could Calibrate the TV from the options, but I don't really know if he meant "adjusting settings like brightness, sharpness, etc..." or something else that I didn't see... It's a 47lw5000.
(If this is not the good place for this thread, fell free to move it)

It sounds to me like you have some consistent lag - either the controller's input is being processed too slowly, or the audio/video are being output too slowly. I think the guy meant to adjust some of the timing options on the TV.

Set your TV to 60hz mode while you're gaming.
120hz is great for TV and movies but it's not designed for gaming.

Edit: If you don't see an option that specifically says "60hz mode", it might look something like this. I'm not sure, my TV's not an LG :/

Ok so I did some researches online and find out that my TV is just not the best for gaming, it's input lag is very noticeable (were talking about ~140ms here), which makes it almost impossible to play any game on it. However, I found that inserting the HDMI cable into the 3rd HDMI port and changing it's label to "PC" reduced that high input lag (in my case it prolly went from 150ms to 40ms or something like that, 1 to 3 frames late).

With my HD tv, using the regular RWY plug in's and the HDMI cables create lag between the game, and the audio/video. I use the RBG cords(I play 360) and there is absolutely no lag between the two. Try that to see if that works. Even though I don't use the HDMI cable, the graphics are still great.

When the sales associate said calibrate the TV he wasn't talking about the image quality lol. There should be an option that let's you compensate for the lag. Its like sm global offset option

It makes sense his way though - if you set the refresh rate to 60 hz, the tv should be able to use the raw input from the xbox since the xbox outputs at 60 fps. If you set it to 120 hz, then the tv has to interpolate the frames between the frames it receives from the xbox since there are 2 times as many frames being displayed as there are being inputted from the raw source. The picture will be smoother (since the tv "blends" between two frames), but it takes more time to process these frames.

At least I think that's how it works. (I honestly have no idea if I'm right)

Yeah that's what I thought too but meh, went through the whole menu and there's nothing like "Calibrate" or anything like that :/ Most online ppl say it's not the best TV for gaming (xbox,PC,etc..) but I think I'll be okay with that little 2 frames late display. :3 Well then, thx guys, I appreciate the help, and uh, going to 60hz (not possible in my case I think) will not help that kind of problem, it's most likely gonna make it worse because Input Lag + Lower refresh rate = Not good haha. This thread can be closed I guess.

                      This --^

I have a 120hz Samsung and it lags for gaming especially for rhythm/other timing essential gameplay. 120hz is only good for movies and TV since it takes more time to buffer the input signal for higher detail/motion.

To compensate this lag for gaming most HDTVs have some type of "game mode" which reduces the amount of buffering so you can get more of a real-time response for your controller inputs. 60hz is what you're aiming for, when I purchased my HDTV I made sure it had this feature since I wanted to use it for gaming.

Here's a pic of mine and it really does eliminate the lag:

After a quick look into your LG model it should have a game mode as well:

Although to be honest it did take me awhile to find out where mine was in the menus since the manual didn't really go into much detail about it. If your manual does the same just explore all the menu options, it should be in there. If not, then you should probably get your money back since that model should have it.

If none of that works then I guess your controller is wack lol

play to the beat and not with your eyes and you will do just fine.. use the screen as a reference.

Most new tvs have a "game mode" that you can set it to. The best gaming tvs are actually 20-something inch computer monitors imo because they have the least input lag. For example, MLG uses an Acer or Asus (always get them mixed up) monitor for their events.

Yup. My Vizio is a 24" and I wouldn't game on anything else. I <3 this thing.
But I can understand people who want bigger screens, especially for Xbox/PS3 gamers who don't feel comfortable sitting two feet from the screen. One of my friends is a real hardcore Gears of War player and he has a 60" Samsung HDTV. I've watched him play and it looks pretty smooth and lagless.

Evo uses Asus vh236h, 23" monitor. The one thing I dislike about it is the sound is soft on it. The 2011 Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition champion "Fuudo" says he felt that it was still lagging. But he is from JPN and they play on arcades over there.
