    laptop doesn't register 3+ keys

For some reason my new laptop refuses to acknowledge that 3 and 4 key chords are an essential part of the game, and thus, refuses to register them. I know there is already a thread similar to this one, but i skimmed through it and everyone just says to try a different key config. #1. I sincerely love my az/' config, and absolutely abhor the idea of changing it. #2. Although reluctantly, I did try a few different configurations, but to no avail.
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.
*I'm using an hp probook 4525s if that helps at all.

    1) Try an external keyboard.
    2) I know this has been stated already but, use a different key set up. like cvkl or efko or zx./ etc
    3) Get a new laptop
    4)?????

Re: laptop doesn't register 3+ keys

Unfortunately I've had the same problem before. I don't know of any way to make the keys work together. The only thing I can offer is a way to figure out if a combination of keys will work together and that's with using stepmainia. In stepmania if you go to "test input" you can click all 4 keys together that you want to test and you'll see if they work together or not.

I really wish I had a better solution for you. Maybe someone else on the forum knows something I don't. Good luck.

I might just have to have my brother take a look at it next time he's in town. In the mean time I'll give the stepmania thing a try. Thanks guys.

I have this issue with my external keyboard that it doesn't read 4 keys in the home row so I had to change my set up to be multi rowed. It's awkward at first but its ok

Re: laptop doesn't register 3+ keys

just tried it, still nothing. the only way for me to get it to register 4 keys is to use keys like the ctrl, alt, and fn keys...which obviously would not make for an ideal ffr config.
oh well, in any case, thanks for trying trying to help

consider using weird key comboes. keyboards tend to allow shift and control and alt in addition to letter keys so try incorporating those.

                  / key
                  z key
and the left and right shift buttons might work for you

Hey hi19hi19, you gave me a good idea. If you use the "larger" keys like <shift> and <ctrl> and such, couldn't you do one handed trills on the large key to simulate jacks? Sounds like a great way to double one's jacking speed, right? For example, if you had the key setup leftShift, x, /, and rightShift, you could easily do left arrow and right arrow jacks by trilling on the shift keys.

I think a USB gaming keyboard is the best way to go, though they tend to be rather expensive. I know what you're talking about, since I can't do hands and quads at all, so I just alternate between ws and kl.

The easiest way to test keys registering is opening up notepad, or typing in anything really. Hold down 4 keys, if all 4 letters appear that means you're good to go. Really quick and easy way to check

That's what's called overlay. Some people think it's a "non-legit" method of obtaining your scores and such, but it's been used before to hit patterns such as the trill in Crowdpleaser/end of Death Piano

tested the shift key thing in stepmania's test input thing. it seemed like it would work, but then when i actually tried it(on the final hour, because the very first note is a 4 note chord :P) it was a no go. Fortunately, I still have my old desktop keyboard. still, kind of a bummer considering i bought this laptop with ffr in mind.

It is all in the keyboard Matrix. Most KB matrices are set up in blocks of 4. (asqw) (dfer) some are in 6 (asdqwe) and some are in horizontal (asdf) or vertical (2wsx) lines. The best way to test this is to keep all that in mind in stepmania when testing it. ie hold down the left hand keys then try the down key then right key.

One should start with "a s" then press l (hold it) then press the ; key. The ; shouldnt show up (if i am assuming the correct matrix for your kb). If it doesnt show, move on to holding zx then press and hold . then try / that should work. If not then try fg hold then press and hold . then /

The main thing is finding 2 "blocks" in the matrix that are not going to ghost one another. I have played on at least 30 different "keyboards" in my day and have found that everyone of them worked with multi key presses. Granted this is a newer keyboard HP may have went cheaper or "less thoughtful of gamers" in setting up a matrix. That may be the case since they didn't use a diode based matrix to eliminate this problem. It is very rare but I wouldn't put it past them. Good Luck and keep us posted.
