When you're bored and in front of the computer

if u, like in that commercial, finally reached the end of the internet and are totally bored and happen to be sitting in front of a computer, try this:

    1) take a massager (or any small vibrating object) and put it on ur head, then turn it on. look at ur monitor and the screen will do weird things (only works for old CRT monitors. flat panels (and i think flat screen CRTs) are somehow immune to this trick)
    2) click and hold the scroll up button on any web page that is bg enuf to have a scroll button. while holding that button down, press the down arrow on ur keyboard. best on faster comps
    3) same as 2 only use the page down key and click in the gray area above the scroll bar
    4) this is when you're REALLY bored. closed all but one window. now, hold down alt and press (in this order) SpaceBar, N, Tab over and over. it's useful if ur at school and a teacher is trying to close ur IE windows where you're playing FFR and u cant use the mouse

please, reply with any suggestions of ur own and reactions to things here that u've tried.
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.

So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
And I write the blog for their website.

Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O

        Play some scary survival horror games, you'll be occupied with trying to find the nads to turn that dark corner. Thanks for NOTHING, Silent Hill 2. --;

Silent Hill = scariest survival horror series ever
I watched clouds awobbly from the floor o' that kayak. Souls cross ages like clouds cross skies, an' tho' a cloud's shape nor hue nor size don't stay the same, it's still a cloud an' so is a soul. Who can say where the cloud's blowed from or who the soul'll be 'morrow? Only Sonmi the east an' the west an' the compass an' the atlas, yay, only the atlas o' clouds.

That and the Fatal Frame games, my older friend is chicken scared to play it without people sitting next to him in the same room. And he's a 25 yr old man. xD I have a sick addiction for the Silent Hill games, can't wait for SH4: The Room.

lightdarkness: the last one u dont just alttab. if u just alt-tab with one window nothing happens. it's the minimizing/maximizing that is the best part.

jam: bah, sunlight. it sucks. allergies + easily burned + fondness for computers = me. therefore, no going outside when i'm bored. sometimes i do walk around outside my house at night, b/cs it's not so hot and the stars are cool. besides, this is for when i'm bored at school, so i couldnt walk outside anyways.

                Cyborg: i dont have any

altairian: what's not to get? and again, this is when i'm at school in the "media center" where they watch you and make sure u dont play games, when i'm supposed to be researching or something and i'm bored senseless. it is fun to make it look like ur comp is having a seizure, tho.

to everybody: it seems as tho i have no life. i'm a boring loser that should continue sitting around in his house lest he ruins some1 else's life. i'm at the forums for this damn game while every1 else is at prom. sorry if i've scared u all with my loserly ways. i guess i'll just go sit around bored some more...

WHAT? How in the world are newer monitors immune to your OWN body vibrating?! That defies logic.

Hooray. It moves a little. Whee.....

Alt+Tab is actually useful when you learn how to use the device known as a Computer and need to quickly switch between windows without using the taskbar. Most people that know of Alt+Tab and use it leave the right hand on the mouse and the left on those two keys for ultimate browsing.

If you're at school playing games and your teacher catches you, Alt+Space+N+Tab isn't going to help, unless they know even less than you and try to undo it by hitting Space+N+Tab+Alt. Geez. Your method of minimizing is more efficiently produced with Windows Key + M. This is the Minimize All command. But, unless your teacher is a complete idiot, this won't do a thing.

If you're bored in front of a computer then you don't know how to use a computer, or your computer sucks. Go find something to download, ANYTHING. Even if it's a few gigs large and you don't even want it. Just get it and watch it go. When it's done go do that. Or you could just reformat your hard drive and save me a bunch of time talking.

Oh yea, and TV sucks. Stop watching it. Download more anime.

i get the feeling squeek hates me...oh well, i dont care. in response:

                        1) if you actually tried the massager trick, u'd know what i mean. your screen appears to have waves in it that ripple and it's just cool, man. but, apparently, LCDs dont seem to ripple. this is probably due to how differently they work.

2 and 3) yes, it moves a lil. well, alot, actually. it's especially fun to try and read what's on the screen while doing this. probably causes eye strain and damage, but oh well, i get plenty of that already. a lil more cant hurt....much

                        4) i'm guessing ur school doesnt have SynchronEyes. with that program, the teacher can see every1's screen and do stuff to it at will, such as write messages on it, control your mouse, etc. a few times in one computer class, i'd be playing games when i finished working (or i'd just skip working altogether ) and mr. maldonado would catch me, and he'd take control of the computer and go to click the X. most kids would at this point furiously move the mouse away from the X, but would fail. i, however, thru my extensive keyboard shortcut knowledge, was able to defeat maldonado. i kept minimizing and maximizing the window and he gave up. stuff like #4 coulda help to confuse and detsroy (intentional spelling) him

anyways, some1 should just delete this topic, since people obviously hate it...and me, for that matter.
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

Ah, I see what you're talking about now. The scanlines show up like they do when you try to videotape a monitor. Newer computers have cleaned that up a bit, but I think it'd be easier to see with a camcorder, not your vibrating face ^_^.

We do have synchroneyes at school, but since I'm kinda like an elite user there it doesn't matter anyway. My name doesn't show up on the teacher's list, and besides, I can cancel the SynchronEyes connection anytime I want. Most people in my classes hate me for it.

So, if you're at school, do your work, THEN play games. That way the teacher doesn't get mad at you and you still finish your assignments. This is what I do, but my teacher loves me anyway. I know more about Flash than she does so sometimes I have to teach the class, which I don't mind.

                          ~Squeek

PS - Where do you get a vibrating object at school?

Ok, so im in my computer programming class, and typing away on the forums, and i see her coming over here, im like OH NOS I BETTER MINIMIZE IT SO SHE THINKS I WAS JUST TYPING FOR FUN.

                            No.

You should have another window open with actual work in it, that way, when she comes over, you have something to "show" that you were "doing".

And it doesnt really matter for me, because my teacher lets me surf the forums, considering im 6 months ahead of my class, and there is only 2 months left of school (im already into APCS curriculum).

well, i got a vibrating object from my teacher in the 5th grade. he had a lil massager thing that he used when he was stressed and stuff, and we were dumb 5th graders and some1 scared somebody by putting it on their head, and then that person said the computers looked weird, and we all tried and it was cool.

and if i was in a programming class, i wouldnt be playing games anyway. i'd be trying to make another one of my own, or improve the one i have. last semester in programming i was always there working before the bell rang and staying after a minute or two to finish up. considering my teacher didnt know shit about programming, and the book wasnt written to teach you how to program games, i think i made a pretty good game.
