    True Story!
    Warning: The following thread will instruct Vista users how to improve their perfomance with only a few steps!


    So check this out, I was browsing google for a way to get rid of this infuriating lag that prevented me from true gaming experience today and have found that with a few steps I could boost my computer's perfomance.

    At first I was a bit skeptical, I mean there's no way I could get this slow ass computer to run virtually as fast as a regular XP right?

    WRONG.

    This may sound too good to be true, but it works.

    User Account Control is the next item on our list: Control Panel>User Accounts>Turn User Account Control on or off. Uncheck the box that says ‘Use User Account Control to protect your computer ...’

    User Account Control is a pain and a drain on resources. UAC’s primary purpose is to stop users from doing dumb things, like downloading suspect files or programs from unsavory sources. If you use common sense, download files only from reliable sources and have decent security software on board, there’s no need for Vista’s heavy chastity belt.

    While the discussion pertains to Vista particularly, the same applies to Windows in general too ! For a general user the first three are usually more than sufficient to make your Vista faster. The remaining are some more which a tweak enthusiast may wish to consider. Utilities like WinPatrol or...


    Reducing visual effects (eye candy). Right-click on “My Computer” > Properties > Advanced > Performance-Settings > Visual Effects > Adjust for best performance > Apply > OK.
    I also turned on low quality and played on "Low resolution", setting the zoom level to 350% (or whichever you prefer) and I was surprised at how fast FFR ran. Most of you may have probably already known this but to all my other fellow Vista users who were not aware, the answer to your problems has finally come to an end. It has been a privilege to share this information with you all and I hope that now we can finally get the FMO AAAs we deserved for a long time.

    edit: Also changing your theme from 32 bit to 16 bit will help too.

          change the theme to classic and color from 32bit to 16 bit too

                  I'm on a 64-bit and this computer runs really well. The User Control thing was already off though.

                              This is one of the things I normally tell people to do when they're expierencing some lag. Another thing that could also help is by looking at Tass Tips Esipode 2 which are other ways to reduce a ton of lag. Good job on the find but i'm pretty sure any person could just search on google or any search engine to find tons of ways to reduce lag on his/her computer.

                                              Go to control panel and click on user accounts and family safety. Then click user accounts and it should be under "Manage account".

                                                  Call your ISP, ask them to turn off interleaving.

                                                  EDIT: uh wait are you guys talking about actual lag or just poor framerate? Does reducing Vista's resource hogging bull**** actually reduce latency or just free up resources to improve framerate?

                                                      Even though Windows UAC is horrible, it's not meant for users, it's meant to prevent viruses. When it's turned off a virus can do anything it wants.

                                                          I found out about this a while back. It does make a difference, but I certainly wouldn't go the extent of saying "Vista runs faster than XP"
